Three 360s is one too many. Currently there are two Xbox 360 models available, and that's already a stretch. Yeah, it's about choice, but it's also about reducing confusion when presenting a prospective buyer with a product. Having three SKUs available to consumers makes it seem like Microsoft doesn't know what it wants to be. Hardcore gamers (like many of you reading this) are sure to do their due diligence when deciding on a game system, but keep in mind that hardcore gamers are the minority. Most gamers purchase a platform with very little research other than selecting which system supports the game(s) they want play.

Not really sure why having 3 sku's is that big of a problem. You can buy a console to fit your needs, if you ask me its a better deal, grandma and grandpa can buy you the core, mom and pops can buy you a hdd, and a wireless controller, while other family members buy you a 12 month sub to xbox live gold, and some games. I think its pretty slick, it provides the ability to pick a console that will fit your needs. 3 different skus equal 3 different levels of price that can easliy fit into anyones budget.

It's still cheaper than the PS3. Cheap is a good thing. But for something to be considered "Elite," in theory it should probably also be the most expensive product on the market. Try as Microsoft may, when looking at price alone, PS3 still has the "elite" advantage when viewed by the affluent upper-class, the same class the $479 Elite is aimed at. Sure, the $499 PS3 just died and $299-399 Xbox 360 models will still prevail, but Microsoft's price advantage over the PS3 just got a whole lot smaller.

Guess this is just for those rich kids out there, hey the Ps3 is more expensive I must have it. Guess we have to knock Microsoft for having a system cheaper then the Ps3. Ignorant reason if you ask me.

No wireless networking. C'mon. This is just inexcusable. Even the DS with its 12 year-old computing technology supports wifi. There's no excuse for what's being dubbed as "elite" not to include this inexpensive, widely used networking standard. Microsoft can pimp "choice" all they want on this one, but who doesn't want wi-fi? Sample: "No, I don't ever want wireless networking, so don't make me pay the $10 wholesale price of adding it." Preposterous.

This one makes me laugh time and time again. What real gamer uses wireless, come on, unless the line of sight to the router is perfect, your still going to get some choke from time to time. Also I would never host a game on wireless, with all the wireless things I have, theres no way Id try and share that bandwidth with all of them, while trying to play my 360. Any real gamer has their pc, 360, Ps3 wired. In the end wireless sucks for gaming, this isn't a Wii were talking about here.

The current 10 million 360 owners are getting the shaft. Microsoft says the Elite isn't aimed at existing customers but for niche HD enthusiasts who still don't own an Xbox 360. Fair enough, but didn't Microsoft just get done telling existing 360 owners that bigger hard drives and HDMI video were unnecessary? Why the sudden shift in philosophy? Even new Elite owners may be getting the shaft as Microsoft will continue to optimize all Xbox Live Marketplace content for the 20GB hard drives, possibly making the Elite's 120GB drive a moot point. And by further segmenting the Xbox 360 platform, no one version benefits as game developers must consider each when developing games and testing hardware. The largest common denominator typically wins.

Hmm an Elite has a large hdd, so I suppose Microsoft should change its stance on downloadable content due to this. Perhaps you step back and think, if someone buys an elite, they probably have a nice tv. Now if they are going to download any content, why settle for low resolution videos, there going to grab the highest resolution content, which equals large file sizes. I know I like to hang on to content for some time, I have friends and family coming over all the time, and its nice to have it on demand when you want it. What does a large hdd have to do with development of games, only game that really sucks up space is Oblivion. This is a console, not a damn Pc.

It will still be really loud. By not including a more efficient, cooler-running 65 nanometer processor, we assume the Elite will continue to pump out an irritating racket when turned on, primarily due to its noisy cooling fan. Usually, loud-running consumer electronics are more akin to discount products, not the high-class "elite" as the name implies. This will totally ruin our experience while we drink Cristal and listen to Vivaldi (yes, we're audio snobs).

It doesn't get any worse then this statement. If im sipping on Cristal, and listing to Vivaldi, I'm going to have a nice 7.1 surround system. The last thing im going to hear is my 360, I'm going to have the volume cranked and get my drink on. Im so sick of hearing about how loud the 360 is, people get a life, how many people play their games on the lowest possible setting? I know I love cranking my speakers up as far as I can get away with. But I suppose there are people out there that have the 360 right next to where they sit. Perhaps it makes a good pillow for these people. I never hear my 360 when watching content, or playing games, and I have a noisy addon cooling solution that is far louder then the stock 360.

No HD-DVD bundle. Is the Elite trying to be a multimedia device or not? Not including an HD-DVD drive just feels underdeveloped, and something Microsoft could have used to juice up excitement for the Elite. Of course, we can't help but suspect that the increasing popularity of Blu-ray had something to do with the decision to exclude HD-DVD this time around. Furthermore, the add-on drive will not be released in black for Elite owners still wanting HD-DVD support. That'll look real classy on your entertainment center; the black-and-white cookie look is so in this year.

Why get stuck with something, that no one knows will be the next thing, or the next paper weight. Ps3 forces you into Blue Ray, whereas Microsoft, gives you the option to buy it. They even will support Blue Ray with an addon player, if Blue Ray comes out on top. Its far to early to be buying into a format. If I wanted a high def dvd player, Id go buy one, not rely on my gaming console to provide it to me. Come on people, get off Ps3 petty coats. Especially if your going to be listening to Vivaldi, while sipping Cristal, pretty sure you can afford a stand alone player.

Someone tell Microsoft that white is the "new black." Sure, Microsoft needs to differentiate from ghostly white Wiis and pastel-colored Apple products, but white -- not black -- is where the good stuff is right now in consumer electronics. Microsoft wisely went with white the first time around, so why the change without letting Elite owners decide on a color? And don't even try to sell a monochrome variation at a premium. Since when did I have to pay more for a black car?

Microsoft, already stated the black is a limited edition run, and that they will be selling white Elites in the near future. Man these reason's get worse and worse, seems someone is grabbing at straws. Also you may not pay more for a black car from the dealer, but the insurance will be more dependent on color.

Quote:
The machine isn't intended for gamers. Ultimately, the Elite has nothing to do with enhancing the gameplay experience; it's for multimedia whores. HDMI, a larger hard drive, new movies and TV content? Great. Remind me why the gamer in me cares? How will the Elite improve my games? From a game saving and demo download standpoint, a 20 GB hard drive is more than enough (hint: you were right the first time, Microsoft). After all, despite whom Elite is being pitched to, gamers are the ones really buying the product.

Didn't they just ramble on about how this isn't Elite due to not having a high def player, wifi, and being loud not allowing them to drink and listen to their classy music. Come on this right here is the undeniable fact that this whole article is the fanboybash 8. I cant help but laugh, these 8 reasons are just plain ridiculous, and im surprised they let this article go. Just the last reason, it fits no where in this article what so ever, and proves the point this guy would have sex with his Ps3 if possible.

Very poorly writing article, his ignorance of the Elite and his passion for the Ps3 ooze out from this comical list of 8 reasons the xbox 360 will never live up to his precious Ps3.

hey man, I gotta say, the 120gb hdd is a good deal. I was playing final fantasy; and the online viewer and ffx alone took nearly 6-7 gig. I plan on buying...in fact preordered age of conan, and if it takes anywhere near what ffx took, then i wouldnt have anything left. if you ask me the elite is fuckin cool and I would personaly dig having a black 360 with a 120gb hdd and black wireless controllers. fuck yeah... meanwhile i just bought the 120gb hdd add on.

if people wanna complain about price, keep in mind that "E-B GAMES" is offering a trade up promo.

check this out - http://thexboxdomain.net/2007/04/16/something-old-for-something-new-elite/

not a bad deal IMO, owning an xbox elite is all about status! just to be able to say you own an ELITE. yeah you can go out and buy black controllers and cases, but id rather have a factory black setup with a warranty then going online to buy a black case that voids my warranty. you dont put Z/06 tags on a SS camaro!

Let them talk all the smack they want, all models of the 360 are outselling the ps3, and all 3 skus of halo 3 are outselling it as well.

*Edit*

Didn't really look into it, this is happening on amazon. Still pretty sad.

Gotta agree with endless (great posts, keep 'em up!) about the wireless thing.. I had my wireless router right across the room from my 360 and I still went with a wire to keep from experiencing the inevitable lag out... Not that it does any good now with a banned box but I never bought the wireless adaptor for my box because of this..
