What do you think about a forum post being generated when a news item is submitted? This post would have the news details in and would allow members to discuss the news item, a link to the post could be added to the end of news item.
The posting could be optional (say a tick box on the submission page). The submitter could be allowed to edit the post before it is posted (add polls, comments etc).
I think this would encourage members to get more involved in the site.

Would be pretty nice, to be able to talk amongst ourselves about current news. You should make this thread have a poll so we can see what others think.

That option could easily be added i guess.. The user who posts the news would also get the credit of 1 post added to their profile and automatically shown in the forums..
I would have to make a news forum though.. To discuss all the latest news just to keep it in the one spot..
