Having the power supply separate is a good idea.
As power supply's do fail after some time,
And being outside the monitor can be fixed easy.
I hate pulling monitors apart to fix dead power supply's.
I have done about 8 or 10 monitors so far that had bad power supply's.
And all are still working so far.

Most detachable power cable monitors use these cords

OH you miss-reed me again.
I am an electronics hardware repair person,
I fix Fisher & Paykel motor controller boards & help people with there problems on http://www.fixya.com/ My user name is Greg Stephen.
I don't fix bad power cables i through them away and use new one's.
Some monitors that have the switch mode power supply(adapter)outside
not internal. All monitors & computers have the IEC power cable but some plug into a separate adapter to make 12 Volts or 19 volts.
Some Laptop chargers have a three leaf clover plug for there power adapter and cable.
External power supply's are called adapters or plug packs
that reduce 100/240 AC to a lower useable DC Voltage.

Well thats what I mean without knowing the volts it'll be a lot harder and more expensive to know which to replace. Cables like the one I posted are pretty much dirt cheap and everyone knows what exactly it is. _________________________________________________________ The internet, a place where people expect you to know what they know.

Plug packs or adapters have there input & output voltages on the out side on a sticker, easy to check the DC output voltage with multimeter

I know that I'm just saying the cable I posted is easier to find and inexpensive. _________________________________________________________ The internet, a place where people expect you to know what they know.

Yeah i have lots of them cables around here,
way too many of them,
My older brother just gave me two more of them.
I will just recycle the copper from them, I got lots.
Planar: has D-Sub, DVI no HDMI port.
Acer: has D-Sub, DVI does not have HDMI
LG: has all three DVI-I, D-sub, HDMI
I like LG has all three.
In Australia we can't get any of them for that price,
If i could get it for that price here i would buy it,
That is so cheap.
Generally Asus has a pretty good selection as well! HDMI, DisplayPort, Dual-link DVI-D on my monitor at least (Asus VG248QE). _________________________________________________________
