Just wondering what everyone is running and recommends for virus protection etc. I currently use AVG.. It's not bad at all, and doesn't hog all your resources.
Bit-Defender all the way. By far (as the independent AV tests show) the best AV on the market. I used to swear by Eset but they went lame with 5 and I switched to BD, year later not regretting it one bit. When BD tagged AutoBuilder as viral I sent them the SRC and they released an update with an exclusion two days later. Like to see Symantec do that (Id hold my breath for it but I like life too much)
havent had to touch my kids computers (archlinux on 2002 desktops) for about 3 years, besides updates.
im using ubuntu (cringe) cos i use my wifes computer. my pc was made into a file server i control with my phone.
we have 1 windows pc and its the only one that ever has problems its also faster than most of our others and no one wants to touch it cos windows takes ages to boot. linux takes less than 30 seconds window plus antivirus etc takes minutes.

I use Microsoft Security Essentials on my Laptop and Supercomputer. It works great and don;t slow anything down. Saved my ass more than a few times.
Edit:
On the Linux ones don't really need any antivirus except on the webservers you need them to protect against phishing and virus that gets uploaded because insecure scripts. Now those don't hurt an Linux PC but they sure do to Windows PCs _________________________________________________________ 10% VIP Discount (Coupon Code: HQ-VIP-001 ) - Signup for web hosting at www.TweakedHosting.com/clients/aff.php?aff=004 and earn the HQ network of sites recurring income!

Microsoft security essentials with malwarebytes.org and also auto update on updates for windows (this i see so much problems with people when they dont have that on) Malwarebytes you can pay if you like it i use it without having to pay it still updates after trial use. I am planing on buying it as it has saved my ass a lot and other computers i work on. My windows only takes about 15secs to boot if you dont have a ssd drive for windows then your missing out big time. All my computers have a ssd drive now and when it tells me i have to restart because of a update im not waiting to lets say ill hit that button when i am done doing what i am doing nah i just hit it and back up in 15secs ha _________________________________________________________ The one the only Scarface!!

Ditch Norton man. Seriously, they dont know their ass from a hole in the ground. All my Windows apps Norton says VIRAL and they do jack shit to your PC just make you an installer disc or convert proprietary video formats like XMV. They run on the premise of "Oh its running CMD32, or accesing the registry, it must be viral" And REFUSE to fix said errors even when they are emailed the SRC for said apps. If you want free I cant dispute going WSE and MBAM but if you dont mind spending a few bucks for piece of mind seriously consider Bit-Defender. I paid $20 Canadian for a 3 PC 2 Year license, and you can see yourself by a simple Google search BD is the only AV to EVER get a perfect score from AV-Test, and took all the top test awards in 2012 and 2013 (CNET, AV-Test, AV-Comparatives, West Coast Labs etc)
