Hey guys my buddy is having some serious DVD-drive problems. He watches a lot of tv shows and dvds on his Xbox, which I know is bad for the drives. It has started to crap out on him and we had to literally press open-close simultaneously, maybe 10-15 times before the game would even read. This was done for several games, so I'm pretty sure the drive is getting ready to die. My question is, what is the best recommended drive for replacement. I'm going to give Scarface a shout and see what he has in stock. _________________________________________________________
Sammy's are still the preferred drive, but honestly I have found that the Benq lasers seem to die the quickest. Don't know which drive is best replacement, but I would just change out the laser and your buddy will be good to go.

Well if you want to swap the drive out you need to backup the original firmware and get a copy of your dvddrive key.. It's much easier to just replace the lens.. Then you won't need to spoof etc etc, and no chance of being detected.

ya, spoofing drives should be a last resort if possible. But if its a banned, who cares then. Even if you find a new replacement drive of the same brand you can just swap the boards around on the drive and spoofing or key extraction is not needed

Thanks guys for the info. As I mentioned before, it's my buddy's Xbox so I'm not very comfortable doing something like that on his console. I guess he's just going to have to figure this one out. _________________________________________________________

Im pretty sure you cant spoof a different brand drive with the newest dash board/firmware. If you get the same brand you should be fine. Idk what happens if you do spoof to a differnt brand, if its an automatic ban or if it just wont load games. Might want to try doing the pot tweaking trick first. It costs nothing and you end up getting a bit more life out of the drive.

Recommendations:
1. Clean the laser lens if problem does come back do 2. or 3. or 4.
2. Pot tweak on the lens get a ohm reader easy about $9.00 as these do become to get loose from the vibration over time. i have found 3.99-4.51 depending on the drive some even at 3.74 but only in that range i have found them to work great in. and u would be tweaking only 1 of them and thats the game one if game discs are not playing. Remember to check the ohms it was at in the begining write it down if you have to replace the laser and your new laser does not work right out of the package thats a if.
3. Replace the laser u can get lasers for about $5 to 10
4. Replace with the same type of drive by just swaping the board out of your buds dvd drive and puting that into the new one or swaping lasers.
5. Flashing the drive to another of same type.
6. Do not flash to a different type of drive like samsung to benq as it has been stated that ms can detect spoofed drives. if your bud does not play xbox live this might be a ok choose too then.
7. Have a professional do it if you dont feel like you think you cant do it or your friend cant do it.
Tip: Spoofing drives can cause for games not loading specially newer games with the new ap2.5 injected in the games now that shows that hey this xbox is supose to have a benq drive in it but instead it has a lite-on drive and cause's a flag and wont boot the game and you will get banned soon or later next ban wave or saved for the one after that one. But with the lt plus firmware i have been able to swap drives like so and be able to play them no problem so far but these consoles are offline only
Well hope this can clear up some stuff you dont always need to go out right away and go for a different drive.
