So I called up uncle tonight to see if he still had his 1982 Z28 Camaro at his old house. Good news he still does, and he will give to to me for free if I want to fix it up.
Here is the thing. The engine block is cracked, the transmission doesn't shift into 4th gear, the outside needs to be repainted, and the interior needs some work. My dad, my grandpa, and my two uncles could do all this but the interior.
My uncle has a 435 V8 motor he has laying around that he could put in it for me, but I don't know if I want to go with the 435 V8, or buy a 350 V8 and put that in instead. I would get better gas mileage with the 350, but the 435 would be some nice power.
As for the rest of it, I could have people fix it. My uncle and my dad are saying it's going to take somewhere between $3000-$5000 to fix it up. I have $3200 in the bank right now.
Do you guys think it's worth fixing up, or should I find another one that is already ready to go? Most ones I have found are in different states, and I would still have to put more money into them to get them up to the standards I want.
Also, what motor do you think sounds like a better deal? _________________________________________________________
hey bud, im a proud owner of a 1980 camaro berlinetta. Its the fancier of the 2nd gen camaros. Your 82 was the first of the 3rd gen and for whatever reason are sought more than 2nd gens. Everyone loves the "iroc". Anyway you have to look not only at cost but do you have the time, money, garage or place to restore it? if you like the car and are willing to put forth the effort im sure that it can be very nice. Thats where i ran into a problem no place to work on it or time and oh yeah the money. Ultimately its your decision I am an avid camaro fan. Im actually selling mine because i have no place to work on it so on and so on. Good luck with whatever you do _________________________________________________________ xbox V 1.0

Living in Australia I have no idea what a Camaro is (I know it is a car and I know it is a chev, just not what it looks like) just like the US guys amongst us wouldnt know what a Monaro is, so I googled it.
Nice looking car bro, can imagine one of these hotted up, with a sick set of alloy's on.
My personal opinion is if you are going to restore something don't go with the cheesy looking Miami Vice 80's cars....Go with the 1969 Camaro. Not only is it a true classic but its a beautiful car. And living so close to Cali you should be able to find one for little or nothing that doesnt need too much work. Plus Women love the 1969 Camaro....Definite bonus. _________________________________________________________
Maybe it's because I'm younger than you guys, but I just don't like the look of the 60's and 70's camaros. I love the 80's camaro, it has such a nice design in my opinion.
As for storage area, we don't really have much at my house, but I'm pretty sure I could store it at my grandpa's house.
I'm probably going to go for it, hopefully it isn't in too bad of shape. _________________________________________________________

its a case of weighing up your options for 3000-5000 you could fix it up, but wha t if something else goes wrong with it and cost more money, you could probably get a new car for the same as it cost to fix it up

While that is true, this is something me and my dad could do together, and I would learn a ton about cars.
Also, I'll have a job by next May, and I won't be driving it until at least this time next year because of insurance costs, so I will have more than enough money to sort out the problems.
This car shouldn't have a terrible amount wrong with it. After my uncle used it, it sat under a cover for about 5 years, and for the last 7 years it has sat in his shop. _________________________________________________________
Sometimes sitting can do alot more damage to a car then alot of people think. Just make sure you guys do a thorough inspection of the car and then research how much parts are going to cost to get it looking cherry again. Anyhow if this is your dream car then go for it bro and more power to you! Also something on your side is there are alot of aftermarket companies that make parts for camaro's so you arent going to have to do alot of junk yard diving and such. Again good luck and God's Speed! _________________________________________________________
