Welcome to the sites..
Its much easier to exchange the exact same drive type.
eg. samsung 2 samsung
But you can easily swap out a hitachi for a samsung , or hitachi for benq etc etc.
You just need to understand that your XBOX 360 MOTERBOARD has a unique key which identifies your XBOX 360 DVDROM DRIVE.. Once you backup your firmware from the broken or warnout drive all you really need it the KEY.
You would then just use tools to replace the key on the new drive.
A Basic scenario,
BROKEN DRIVE = Samsung
NEW DRIVE = Samsung
Say you bought a replacement drive and you just put it into your console without doing anything to the firmware.
Your console would still boot and play movies, and music from the dvdrom player just fine but it would not boot original games at all since the UNIQUE KEY would be missing.
All you would need to do to fix this is:
1. backup the old drive (SAMSUNG) firmware (orig.bin)
2. Open the firmware using Maximus toolbox and backup the key INFO.
3. Next you would backup the brand new drive firmware.
4. Now open Maximus again and edit the KEY using Maximus Firmware Toolbox 3.0 or higher and flash the new key back.
The new drive would now be ready to play ORIGINAL games again with the correct KEY.
hope this explains things a little clearer, but then again ive been up all night working on the sites again..

Thats what i'm doing Hitachi to Samsung,.But your correct should have went for Like for Like..
Hello,.Thanks for your reply...
Thats exactly what I wanted to know. I've studied your tutorial and think i have it sorted...
So if i get it running original games by swapping the key over,,Then if I want to play backups all i have to do is flash it with ixtreme's firmware.
As a Samsung not a Hitachi...
I was thinking That because I was Spoofing it as a Hitachi then I would need To Flash it as so....
Thanks again for your help....Colin
