Ok this has finally gotten to me. Whenever I try to connect to certain friends games/parties I always get a connection error and can't join.
This is what is up. I have 4 friends: Lance, daniel, derek, and ross. Lance lives about 5 miles southeast of me. Daniel lives down the street from me. Derek lives 3 blocks to the west of me. Ross lives about 1/2 mile east of me. Ever since I got my xbox 360 if I try to join any of dereks games he hosted, private chats or parties it says connection failed unable to join. This happens in everygame, halo 3, gears, shadowrun, rs6 2.
If I try to join rosses games his works fine. Parties and private chats also work fine.
Daniels is also like rosses, in which I am able to connect to everything.
Lance is like derek, I can't join matches he's hosted or parties that he is the leader in.
The other odd thing is if daniel hosts a match and I join his me and derek can play fine with no lagg. If derek hosts though daniel is able to join but I can't.
So is there something I can do to fix this because I get tired of not being able to play with my friends that live within 5 miles of me. _________________________________________________________
-Are you guys all on the same ISP
-How do your xbox's connect to the internet (router, wireless router, direct to modem)
I would try and seeing if you guys all connected directly to the modem (it may be impractical for most of your friends and you) and see if that solves anything. If it does I think it might be your router causing the problems, however this is just a guess. If that does solve your problems make sure everyone has these ports open on their router
* UDP 88
* UDP 3074
* TCP 3074
These are the basic ports for games for windows and xbox live, and if your router doesn't have automatic port forwarding make sure you enable those ports. _________________________________________________________
My rosses and my isp is comcast. Daniel has some form of dsl, and derek has verison dsl. Lance also has some form of dsl.
My xbox and all of theirs are hooked up through a router. It goes xbox -> router -> modem -> internet. Those ports have been opened on my router since march so that isn't the problem. I'm sure none of my friends have them opened because they don't even know what port forwarding is. _________________________________________________________

It is somewhat irrellavent on how close they are to you since your are actually still routed through Microsoft servers (the game server) no matter where you or your friends are. The lag should be minimal once connected since you are close , but who cares about lag if you can't even connect.
Try and get everyone on the same page for open ports in there routers. Most routers are firewalls by default. They may even have an OS Firewall or some other software firewall installed. After this it may come down to the ISP but it can't hurt to call the ISP's and even Microsoft over the matter.
I can't say much more right now because I have always been able to connect to every xbox live match I have tried whether they were near or far. By the way I use Comcast at home for xbox live. Right now cable is the most stable has the the largest data transfer rates for homes unless you are lucky enough to have Verizon Fios. DSL is flaky, slow and hit and miss in my town sometimes even less reliable than 56K. _________________________________________________________ 10% VIP Discount (Coupon Code: HQ-VIP-001 ) - Signup for web hosting at www.TweakedHosting.com/clients/aff.php?aff=004 and earn the HQ network of sites recurring income!
