hey guys so my xbox died as of last night the screen had weird dots
i went to menu and it work went back to game no good,
so i turned it off and turned it on today it turned on fine
but same problem, so im assuming this is a gpu issue.
i turned it off the i turned it back on
ONLY to find out that it has an error 74
and the 4th section blinks red..
and i did search and did not find the exact error of mine so i made this thread any help?
i bought it in costco i can return and get refund, re purchase it and im good, But how can i save my current content to the new HDD? And if i buy another 360 bring it home pop the current hdd to the new 360 can i see the content?
i tried removing the HDD it still gives me an error,
Okay well I did some research and error 74 has something to do mostly with the gpu and sometimes with the input on the audio/video board. Eithier way it is fubar and should be taken back and exchanged or you can call 1 800 my xbox and they will repair it for you since it is still covered under the one year warranty. When my last 360 went tits up what I did is I got a 360 memory card and put my gamertag account and all my important saves on the memory card. They also have a item that attaches to your hard drive without voiding the warranty that will allow you to save your hard drive game saves and account to your computer but I have never tried it. Anything you have downloaded with your account can be downloaded again. So your best bet is to just go to costco and exchange that bad boy out. I hope this helps. _________________________________________________________

edit: 33 views 1 reply? c'mon guys some ideals would be great, if i unplug the 360 's a/v cables and turn it on all lights flash red but whats intresting is that the 360 boots just fine and sounds like normal, if i leave the av plug in it doesnt sound like its even trying to boot anything....
edit : this was caused by playing alot of Rainbow six vegas 2 , army of two and nfs pro street... TOP NOTCH GAMES guys! _________________________________________________________ |FTP|Useful Links| softmod vs hardmod questions
Ya your hdd will work fine on another xbox, you'll just have to redownload all of your downloadable content (if you don't then you will have to be signed into xbox live to be able to use it). _________________________________________________________

Ahh sorry I didn't realize your xbox was so old. Costco will give you a refund on it still? Anyhow yes all your downloaded material will be available for a free redownload on your new hard drive. Just put your gamer account and game saves on a memory card and transfer it to your new hard drive and you will be set. But as far as your 360 goes it is fubar and can't be fixed by any normal means. Unless you want to risk popping it open and trying to fix it yourself. Which the x-clamp fix might work on the gpu but it might not. You might still try calling 1 800 my xbox and seeing what they say. I hope this helps. _________________________________________________________
hey forahobby thanks for that link yes thats what i was trying to figure out, for what i understand (please correct me if im wrong)
my current 360 20gb hdd works on any 360 right
if so do i plug it on another 360 and use a mu to transfer saves ? what about demos etc etc? i want an exact transfer
i was thinking of getting an elite therefore reqeusting the transfer cable from ms?
the other ideal is just to buy another 360 with stock 20gb hdd and swap hdd, so i return my broken 360 with a brand new 360 hdd?
if this was confusing what i mean is i can buy a non elite and use my current hdd on the new one? or do i just get an elite and use a transfer cable?
sorry for making this therad long im just frusturated about it, yes costco will return my 360 because video game consoles have lifetime warranty , and im planning on getting the elite pakage from costco.com it has assains creed extra wiress black controler and the elite it self.
edit was wondering if all the 360 being made now are the updated ones with smaller 65nm and new dvd drive etc etc
I personally prefer the elite over the other systems due to the fact that they run alot cooler then the other models and have the 120 gb hard drive and they just look so much sweeter then the other systems. I have had so many premium systems go out on me that I lost count but my elite is still up and running even if I play it 12 hours straight it still stays cool so I would go for the elite. _________________________________________________________

so the elite's run cooler then reg 360? i thought all of the newer ones had smaller chip set 65nm? and if i get the elite then i'll request the transfer cable right? is this a safe method? suggestions?
Final question, if i get a 20gb non elite right now and then later on get a elite edition would ms let me go from one 360 to another to another? due to the fact that i might want upgrade / or it 360 when it dies..? _________________________________________________________ |FTP|Useful Links| softmod vs hardmod questions
