I do not not yet own a 360. I've wanted one since they came out, but, like a lot of others, I kinda wait a little after a new products release to see how they're doing, sales, support, reliability, those sort of things. Now that I think I'm ready, I've done a great deal of research and I must say, what I've read so far is discouraging. It seems that there's an inordinate amount of problems with the 360 regarding the dreaded "Three red lights" problem. And from reading various posts, there doesn't seem to be a pattern. Some claim it's a heating problem, and some people have reported the problem started aftre downloading factory updates. And the problem isn't limited to the first generation systems, it includes the early models as well as newly released ones. Before I spend my hard earned money I want to know if there's anyone who has owned one of these things for any length of time that hasn't had a problem, or are these problems become an "acceptable evil" or the price to pay for great graphics and gameplay. Thanks for any input on these questions.

"acceptable evil" is a good way to describe my three red trouble. Bought Dec 06 Played straight throught April without a glitch. Then three red light. M$ Paid for shipping both ways to fix and only gone about eight days total then back in the game!
I would do it all over again because the small amount of time I was down was well worth this Awesome Gaming Console!!!!!!! _________________________________________________________

i have never had the three red lights problem and i have owned my console since December 06. But i have read many posts from users who have sent the console off to M$ and had no problems getting it back with no money out of thier pocket. now if that isn't service then you tell me what is?
the games on the 360 are superior in my opinion because of the amount of games out for the system. the xbox live is just phenomenal because of the amount of content you can recieve, and now with the addition of a 120 gig HDD the possibilities become almost endless. did i forget to mention the awesome functionality of the MEDIA CENTER through windows? streaming music and movies over your network is the only way to do it in my opinion, something you can't do with the PS3 or the WII...
but i am a little biased since i will soon own 2....ELITE HERE I COME! _________________________________________________________ http://www.myspace.com/discardedtelepathy <--my music, please let me know what you think...

As far as the different malfunctions, heating, problem after update etc, I truley believe they are 99.9% all the exact same problem, with a large number of 360s being shipped out with a bad component, the problem is xbox will not share info on what this defective component is, and the problem starts quite suddenlly, so if i do an update just before the problem starts im bound to blame the update.
But xbox is aware of the defective (part) and when you ship your 360 in for repair are quick to replace it and get your system shipped back out to you. for some people multiple repairs are needed. so maybe something with the xbox is causing a part to go bad. Who knows, I think xbox will share the real cause somtime arround the governments release of all its UFO info lol.
but is seems to be mostly be hitting the batch that was released around oct -dec o6' that includes mine and yes it got the red lights and is on its way back from repair right now.
But its not all bad
I got 4 very solid months of constant great no problems, game play out of it. as soon as i had a problem I called support and was on the phone only about 4 minutes, in 3 days they had a shipping box here for me, i sent out same day, they got it 4 days later, and fixed and shiped back same day the got it and about 4-5 days to get it back. as long as it works its not to bad. I just had to do with out for a couple weeks.
they have extended the warrenty to a full year on all 360s, and even have a disc replacement program that if you scratch the hell out of your disc you can send it in for a replacement free, You probobly have to pay shipping not sure.
but once my warrenty is up and it breaks down I dont know how I will feel, I cant afford $140 for repairs.
as far as market place, I love to download extra lvls for online games etc, but am very dissapointed that xbox wants to charge your for everything. even gamer pics (avatar pics) for your gamer card, they gouge the heck out of you. they will throw in the occasional freebee now and then but not much.
when it is working and you are not having to pay to download something then it is a fantastic system with great games..
I realy wanted a ps3 but did not get in line in time so did not get one, so went with my second choice the 360, and have actualy been having a blast with it, and dont see alot of great games on the ps3 as of yet so might hold off on that, the 360 has alot of kick ass games out and coming out very soon, and it all comes down to the games in the end.
alot of games will come out for all systems such as GTA IV, but I have read on that rockstar games will be making downloadable extra missions and game play for GTA IV only on the 360. I would hate to have the PS3 and miss out on any extra content.
as far as the Wii. from what I hear its a blast, everyone that has one seems to be in love with it.
If you go with a 360 I would suggest getting the latest production model you can find ( incase they engineer out the bad parts) and pick up an extended warrenty to be safe, because unlike most products that offer extended warrentys, you have a great chance of actualy needing this one, and as long as it is less than $140 you already come out ahead.

well. i been a proud xbox 360 owner since april 06 and i had the 3 red lights problem... i say im proud of this console b/c this is the best system out there. nothing compares to it and 80% of the games are amazing...
one more thing xbox live is what really got me interested in the 360 . xbox live is just one big word ( awsome )
i easy fix the 3 red light error . it was over heating.. but after a few months of the xbox being out.. companies like Nyko came up with the 360 intercooler to help the system be cool . it helps move air thru the sytem.
if u ask me if the 360 is worth buyin. my answer is YES it is..

I have to agree with that, Xbox live is where it is at, download demos, play online with others, My brother has A 360 but not hooked up to the net, its like having a cool plane but never take it up.
If there was no xbox live I would not pay more than $200 tops for the system. It is hard for me to play games off line now, they feel empty without other humans in the game. AI just doesnt cut it any longer.
It is definately worth the money. I have had mine since Jan 07 and no prolems. Hopefully there wont be any problems either. Also I know people who have had it since it came out and they havent had any problems. _________________________________________________________
