I saw this article on the net about hackers may be targeting consoles, if it does happen would this be an exploit to enable new dashboards to be inserted on the 360. I know very little and any information would be good

Computer security experts believe it is only a matter of time before console users and online gamers become the next major target for hackers.
Reports arose last month suggesting that Microsoft’s Xbox Live network had been hacked. While this proved not to be the case, Microsoft did admit that support staff had compromised security by being tricked into releasing customers' account details. Experts view this trend of fraudulentlty extracting details, known as phishing, as just the beginning of what will be a sustained attempt by hackers to target game players, says a report.
With online cpabilities playing such a prominent role in today’s console market, a security analyst for Australia's Computer Emergency Response Team (Auscert), MacLeonard Starkey says, “I haven't seen any malicious code that is specifically designed to run on a PlayStation 3 or an Xbox but I would expect it is not very far away at all.”
Director of product management at security software maker CA 1, Stefana Muller believes that console hackers are keen to carry out "proof-of-concept" hacks. “I think it's going to be an 'I did it' kind of target, 'I got to exploit this gaming console'. It's obvious that once a new thing comes out, if it's cool, it will be exploited.”
Starkey went on to suggest that online games such as World of Warcraft will also increasingly become a target due to their popularity and the value of in-game items. “They can log in and steal the items that players have collected over, in some cases, four or five years. There's actually some pretty good money in that,” said Starkey.
Both expertrs say gamers need to protect their computers and be vigilant of unknown or suspicious websites.

At the moment, 360 users shouldn't fret. Once the kernel gets hacked, and homebrew, and apps are ready to be used will be the time to worry. But even then, it will get noticed almost immediately and will only effect a small few. But interesting they have shifted their attention.

From what little info there is it seems as if someone thinks it may happen, rather than it will happen. I was just hoping that if it happens that it may give rise to an exploit to put a dashboard on the 360

It makes sense though.
Think about it, integrated gaming consoles with computers for entertainment systems, music sharing and the like... XP Media Center and the 360 supposedly work hand in hand. What an incredible opportunity.
And what about the ability to hijack XBL? If you have 100 sign on's and passwords for XBL access, I wonder what the going price would be.
I'm sure there are lots of things I haven't even thought of yet, but it makes sense since 360's are usually hitched up to broadband. _________________________________________________________ http://twitter.com/HQ_Shark2th
