Apogee Entertainment (@Apogee_Ent), the legendary developer-publisher behind Duke Nukem, Prey (2006), Max Payne, Wolfenstein 3D, Commander Keen, and many more, announced today that the company has accepted $5 million in external financing - making it the first outside investment in Apogee's history.
eWTP Tech Innovation Fund’s $5 million investment in Apogee comes on the heels of the original indie game publisher’s public resurgence in March 2021, when founder and industry luminary Scott Miller rejoined the company he started in his parents’ home in 1987. A creative powerhouse that mentored id Software, Remedy Entertainment, and so many others, Apogee’s 2021 resurrection saw several successful game launches, like sci-fi survival adventure Residual from OrangePixel, and even more signings, including the open-world epic Elements (starring Patricia Summersett of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild) and Turbo Overkill, a frenetic first-person shooter from the acclaimed creator of DOOM II mod Total Chaos.
eWTP shares Apogee’s vision for an industry future where undiscovered indie talent is found, elevated, and rewarded for simply giving consumers great games—complete, polished, and purely fun. Their investment will accelerate Apogee’s growth, allow the hiring of additional management and production staff, and make possible the signing of several new games and developers spanning the globe.
"I couldn't be more thrilled by this investment in our future success. I’m especially glad to have met Partner CY Chen and VP of Business Development Jack Sorensen, both of whom impressed us deeply with their understanding of our profession and business goals," said Scott Miller. "Partnering with eWTP has us excited for the rocket ride ahead, on which we’ll discover and bring even more games to the world."
Turbo Overkill (@turbo_overkill), the ultraviolent cyberpunk FPS from the creator of award-winning DOOM II mod Total Chaos and published by Apogee Entertainment, paints Paradise blood red in 2022 on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and Steam, GOG, and Epic Games Store for PC. Demo live at PAX West!
In Turbo Overkill, Johnny Turbo needs to clean up Paradise, a cyber city overrun by augmented minions under the cult control of the world's most advanced AI, Syn, who's looking to expand to world domination if not stopped here and now. Wall-running, Hero-Time, chain saw leg augments, flying cars and lots of booms.
Rev up the savage chainsaw leg and start chopping as Johnny Turbo, a mercenary returning to clean-up his crime-ridden hometown of Paradise. In this Blade Runner-meets-DOOM hellscape, Johnny finds the city’s entire population possessed by Syn, a rogue AI, and its army of augmented minions. Desperate for enough money to outrun his past mistakes, Johnny takes on the impossible job of destroying the greatest AI ever created. Rival bounty hunters want to claim the prize first… nothing is easy in paradise.
Turbo Overkill takes over-the-top to never-before-reached heights. Activate Hero Time(™), a new form of slow motion with a twist. Build incredible speed by wall-running and dashing. Slide on your chainsaw leg, eviscerating foes and opening up bosses for critical damage, and go car-surfing—yes, riding on the hoods of flying cars. Blast away with the Twin Magnums, which lock-on and instagib several foes, the Boomer Shotgun and its attached grenade launcher, or the Telefragger sniper rifle, which teleports Johnny inside an enemy before they explode from within. The FPS genre is about to get really wild and really fun again.
Race through two dozen stages packed with secrets, bonus arena stages, and white-knuckle combat puzzles. Find game-changing collectibles to unlock punishing modifiers like triple-monster-speed and insta-kill. Combine all of Johnny’s weapons and powers to outsmart, outgun, and outrun the corrupted legions.
Turbo Overkill will release in 2022 on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4, Switch, and Steam for PC.

Seeing Doom on the Xbox 360 with online play was a pleasant surprise and it looks like there are going to be more Doom games coming to Xbox Live Arcade in the future. The ESRB has ratings up for Ultimate Doom and Final Doom, which is a strong suggestion that we’re going to see both of these later. Since Ultimate Doom only had one extra episode (Thy Flesh Consumed) it may be an additional content pack for Doom instead of a standalone game. Final Doom is based off of Doom II, but it has an entirely new set of 64 maps. Since Final Doom has significantly more content it is likely to be a separate release when it comes out.
The site does say that the current 360 version of of Doom is Ultimate Doom as it contains "Thy Flesh Consumed".
