My Xbox Revealed Published by: patto on Sunday, October 23, 2005
' Xbox.com has updated their site to reveal new details about the upcoming web-based content of My Xbox. Here is what they had to say.. '
Since the Xbox 360 made its first appearance in an MTV special presentation in May, you've all gotten a pretty good look at the console and what it's capable of doing. You know when it's going to hit store shelves, how much it will cost, and had a taste of the games that are in development. What you don't know is what we've been holding back—the philosopher's stone, the magic dust, the secret sauce of Xbox 360.
My Xbox is a seamless integration between Xbox 360, Xbox Live, and Xbox.com. It reflects the friends you add, achievements you earn, and games you play on Xbox.com in real time. You'll be able to compare your achievements with any other Xbox Live member just by logging in to My Xbox on Xbox.com. (Remember, achievements are new and can only be earned by playing Xbox 360 games.)
Through the years, I, Professor Jason Q. Lutz, have collected thousands of pieces of shocking, mind-blowing evidence. Evidence that proves that Hex 168 motivates our most bizarre, transcendent, and oddest moments. I was tipped off to many of these Hex 168 incidents by fellow truth-seekers who used a secret back-channel to contact me.
If you hear rumblings or “pre-vibrations” of future Hex 168 outbreaks, use this encrypted info-stream to warn me about them BEFORE the incident occurs. Our Research Department may send an official Lutz delegation as witnesses! Study these documents so you can track down future Hex’d moments. Radio Shack has not been known to be the first stop for most serious gamers’ needs. A cable here, an audio adapter there — console peripherals are mostly what you’ll find on the company web site’s current Gaming section (except for the lone Nintendo DS on offer here). If a CAG forum user (with a relevant corporate logo as his or her avatar) is to be believed, however, RadioShack will begin to offer over 1100 games and a bit more hardware on RadioShack.com by the end of the month, including pre-orders for the Xbox 360. Brick & mortar stores will apparently not stock the new selection, but will allow customers to order from the web site in-store instead (dealing with shelf-space and inventory issues in one e-tailing blow).
Now there’s not much proof here to go on beyond the word of a dedicated CAG forum member, but CAG has been good to us before (see the DS price-drop rumor), so this news should not be dismissed lightly. Also, if RadioShack maintains its free ground shipping option (for orders $50 and up?), we may have a new destination for a variety of games you can’t find in most big-box retailers. The actual prices for whatever games are carried will probably make or break this deal, so here’s hoping RadioShack execs know what the market will bear. At the very least, we’ll hopefully have one more place to try when Xbox 360 (or other next-gen console) pre-order stock runs low. As long as they don’t simply throw more electronic poker and checkers handhelds at us, I’ll be satisfied.
There is word going around saying the 360 will not luanch alongside with the American and European releases. Agian, no offical word from M$ on the matter, but speculation has it at there just arn't enough consoles in manfacture to luanch there, or not a big enough game luanch. The new luanch for the 360 in Japan is set to March of 2006, around the same time as the luanch of the PS3. This is a serious blow for Microsoft, as most of the market in Japan is towards the PS3 there is no chance of the 360 selling alot of units beside the new era of playstation.
Impress’ PC Watch has published the second part of its interview with Ken Kutaragi, in which the father of the PlayStation discussed the true purpose of the PlayStation 3, explaining that the next-generation console is “more than just a game machine”.
