Lots of news from team xecuter today: 3 new Xbox 360 products (info/schematics/code for homemade DVD patchmod, X360 USB and Unlock Kit v2) and 1 new Xbox product (X3IR USB).
* Xecuter(info) 360 Homebrew Modchip Project (XHM)
Team Xecuter has decided to break away from its usual business model by starting the scene's very first homebrew 360 modchip project (XHM for short)
We have designed and tested a mod that patches the dvd firmware on-the-fly and works with all Hitachi and Samsung drives.
For Samsung it currently auto detects if the game is a backup and patches the firmware, if the game is an original it goes to sleep and no patching is done at all. For Hitachi the current code is manual enable/disable but we will soon implement an auto method, or one of you may beat us to it
Basically what we are doing is releasing to the xbox scene, for the very first time, modchip development and putting it in the hands of scene hobbyists. We will provide the complete source code and schematics where you will be able to see exactley how its all done - and make improvements and changes yourselves!
We all know how the homebrew scene works and how fast development can grow in a short period, so now is the time to put it to the test.
O.P.A. released a new version of their Hitachi-LG firmware package with some bugfixes in flashing and the v46/v47 firmwares of yesterdays OPA Xtreme v2.0 release:
* ALL NEW XTREME V2.1 FIRMWARE FOR ALL BUILDS OF THE HITACHI DRIVES!
- Now includes "Security Sector Extraction" for all Hitachi Drives
- No other improvements, same as our earlier "Xtreme v1.3", this
release just supports SS Extraction within Windows without the
need to re-flash your drive back and forth between PLAY & RIP!
Microsoft has offered the first real demonstration of its external HD-DVD drive for the Xbox 360 since its fleeting appearance at E3, but remains silent on pricing or a confirmed release date.
Demonstrating the device to attendees at the DVD Forum in Los Angeles, Microsoft's senior program manager, Kevin Collins, refused to be drawn on the exact price point for the device - stating only that it would be among the least expensive of the HD DVD players to reach market.
"All the audio and video processing is done inside the Xbox," Collins stated, noting that research indicates the majority of Xbox 360 owners already have HD televisions. The drive will provide them with all the other required equipment to watch HD DVD movies.
After the Special PGR3 bundle for Canada and another PGR3 bundle for Mexico, sources at kotaku.com suggest Europe (or atleast some EU countries) will get a Saints Row bundle for 439EUR (normal Pro Bundle is priced 399EUR, Saint Row is priced ~65EUR):
Karsten from Shizzle Games points out that Microsoft is listing an Saints Row Bundle on their official press site for Europe.
The bundle, which includes the premium system and the game, will be released on Sept. 8 for 439 Euros. Right now it's only showing up as coming to France, but chances are it will be hitting the rest of the continent too. When the hell is the US getting a bundle, that's what I want to know?
O.P.A. released a new version of their Hitachi-LG firmware package that now comes with support to extract the Security Sectors (SS) using the drive under windows and has further improved flashing and restoring:
