Any release by Rockstar Games is cause for celebration in the gaming community, but Red Dead Redemption II (RDRII) deserves a party fit for a king. Players expect the developers to come through like they always do, and it’s a safe assumption that they will.
Ever since the release of the second Red Dead Redemption back in 2010, audiences across the world are hooked. That game not only featured impressive graphics but an intricate storyline with an open-world concept and plenty of Wild West-style action. Shootouts, gambling, bounty hunting and cattle herding all played a part of the daily special. But eight years have passed since that release date. What gives?
After waiting for what seems like a long time to play RDRII, the developers are still vague about when the game is set to release, and there is much confusion surrounding the actual date — we had several false alarms throughout 2017. However, Rockstar finally gave us a
concrete date: October 26, 2018. And as that long-awaited day dawns, we do know you can play the new release on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. But it could also be a matter of time until a version of the game releases for other consoles.
So, what can we expect from the game? The storyline takes place before the second installment in the Red Dead series. That means the plot centers on the magical time in between Red Dead Revolver and Red Dead Redemption I in the year 1899.
The protagonist, Arthur Morgan, must flee with the rest of his gang after a failed robbery attempt, and if you’re going to hop aboard the western train with the rest of the die-hards, you need to get him out of many tricky situations to survive. As before, the game revolves around your choices as Arthur, which determines how you fare out and what missions you need to complete to move forward.
Act honorably or like a villain. The choice is yours. That's nothing new, but there are new aspects to consider. The immersion is much stronger with RDRII. You need to take better care of weaponry and need to choose the right ones for the task at hand.
You can interact with NPCs in new ways, some of them not too pleasant (for the NPC) and take care of your character as well. Hair, clothes and food are no longer integrated automatically, so you must choose appropriate options for the weather and your goals. Hunting and fishing bring on a whole new level of pain as well. You must track down the wounded game, skin them and choose the appropriate arms.
While the game isn’t wildly different from the first game, it provides refreshingly new scenery and a much more immersive and real experience that most every fan can get behind.
