Will the Xbox Find VR Support?

Will the Xbox Find VR Support?
Published by: forahobby on Thursday, March 18, 2021
Tagged: Gaming, Xbox One,

As the newest offerings from both Sony and Microsoft continue to carve their own path forward and capture their own portion of the market, questions around which will push either forward continue to be asked – one of the big features is certainly for contention here, with the PS5 pushing forward with its own PSVR2 platform, many fans are asking whether or not the Xbox will be primed for VR support which it is currently missing, or if a continued delay will be had until big features become available.

Will the Xbox Find VR Support?

For some, the answer is already seemingly a not just yet – the Xbox lead has stated a number of times through interviews that whilst Microsoft is invested in exploring the virtual reality space, at its current there seems little reason to invest in developing options on the console as adoption rates amongst console users as a whole are quite low, and it’s hard to disagree – the number of games releases on different platforms in the VR space isn’t all that high, and whilst there are some that have been able to capture a great experience through the introduction, particularly amongst the simpler genres looking to replicate an offline experience like the big jackpot sites as users benefit from a jackpot joy code, but for something more complex like an FPS or MOBA that are leading the gaming industry currently, there’s still quite the gap.

The other issue certainly comes in at cost, too, as whilst VR as a whole has become much cheaper over the past few years there’s still quite a large price tag attached to the bigger names. Efforts have certainly been made to bring the overall cost of consoles down, but the cost of games has gone up a little, and it may be much harder to justify a price tag of a few hundred dollars extra on top for a VR system that has little game offering.

Whilst it may be enough to sway the decision of some, there will certainly remain the staunch defenders of either platform with or without big new features like VR, and with the consoles only recently releasing this past holiday period and the longer life cycles they typically go through there’s still plenty of time for change – the Xbox could certainly find VR support a little further down the line if things move forward quickly, or it could turn out all of the investment from Sony falls short as VR continues to stumble and finds difficulty taking off at all.

Microsoft's New Xbox Wireless Headset Is Now Available Worldwide

Launching today, the Xbox Wireless Headset offers best-in-class audio and chat performance, a comfortable and intuitive design, and unique experiences customizable to each gamer. With all these benefits, we are raising the bar for mid-tier wireless headsets.

Best-in-Class Audio and Chat Performance

  • Low latency, lossless audio with Xbox Wireless radio for fewer pops, clicks, and disconnects.
  • Support for spatial sound technologies, including Windows Sonic, Dolby Atmos, and DTS Headphone:X, for realism and audio precision.
  • Crystal clear chat with intelligent mic features that focus on speech audio vs. surrounding sound:
    • Voice isolation tuning helps the mic pick up your voice, not background ambient noise.
    • Auto-mute automatically mutes your microphone when you aren’t speaking, so you keep comms channels clear. You can customize auto-mute sensitivity or turn it off altogether. The on-ear manual mute button gives you privacy when you need it.
    • An indicator light on the mic boom turns on when your mic is active, so you always know when your voice is being picked up.
  • The Xbox Accessories app on your Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Windows 10 devices lets you fine-tune the audio controls for a customized audio experience, including equalizer settings, bass boost, auto-mute sensitivity, mic monitoring, and brightness of mic’s LED light.

Comfortable & Intuitive Design

  • Outstanding design with high-quality materials and finishes, featuring a durable frame with inner metal headband, rubberized dial rings for grip, and a fully adjustable mic you can tuck up and out of the way.
  • Lightweight and comfortable at just 11 ounces (312g), with large earcups and a thick headband cushion made of ultra-soft polyurethane leather designed to fit a wide range ear and head sizes.
  • Ease of use and intuitive design with earcup dials for volume and game/chat balance, and on-ear controls for power, mute, and pairing.
  • Up to 15 hours of battery life with the internal, lithium-ion battery. Fully charges in 3 hours but even 30 minutes of charging will get you back into the game in a flash with up to 4 hours of battery life. *

Compatibility & Connectivity

  • Pairs with multiple devices. Play wirelessly across multiple devices including Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Windows 10 PCs and connect to your mobile device via Bluetooth for on-the-go music or chat. You can even pair to your phone and Xbox simultaneously to chat with a friend on your phone while playing on your console.
  • Fine-tune audio and chat settings with the Xbox Accessories app, including equalizer settings, bass boost, auto-mute sensitivity, mic monitoring, and brightness of the mic indicator light.
  • Wireless updates on your console will deliver the latest features for a premium audio experience that continues to evolve.

Special Dolby Atmos for Headphones Offer

Microsoft has partnered with Dolby to offer a limited activation of Dolby Atmos for Headphones on all Xbox Wireless Headsets until September 30, 2021. Immerse yourself in a more intense gaming experience with pinpoint audio precision and crystal clarity to catch even the subtlest, yet game-changing sounds. †

Dolby Atmos for Headphones activation requires just two simple steps:

  • Connect the Xbox Wireless Headset to your console or Windows 10 PC
  • Download and open the Dolby Access app
  • On the app loading page, you’ll receive a notification at the bottom of the screen confirming activation – “Dolby Atmos for Headphones is ready for use” – which can be verified by the Xbox Wireless Headset trial countdown in the upper right corner of the app Home screen.

The new Xbox Wireless Headset is available in most worldwide Xbox markets at select retailers, including Microsoft Store.

* Battery life varies significantly with distance from console, additional accessories, usage and other factors. Testing conducted by Microsoft using pre-production units.

† Dolby Atmos for Headphones is available on Xbox and Windows 10 PCs. Dolby Atmos for Headphones activation lasts until 11:59 UTC-12 on September 30, 2021. After trial, you may purchase the app from Dolby directly. For help, contact Dolby Access Support
