The British Board of Film Certification announced Friday that it has been granted permission to judicially review the decision by the Video Appeals Committee to overturn the Board's rejection of Manhunt 2.
The news follows Monday’s announcement that the BBFC was seeking a judicial review of the VAC's ruling, a move met with disappointment by the game's publisher Take-Two, and confirms that Manhunt 2 will definitely not see a UK release until the case is heard sometime in January.
"The BBFC was today given permission to judicially review the decision by the Video Appeals Committee to overturn the Board's rejection of the video game Manhunt 2,” the BBFC said in a statement.
“The Board has also been granted a stay on the classification of the game. It is expected that the case will be heard in January.”

THQ 's “SpongeBob SquarePants Underpants Slam!,” based on Nickelodeon's wildly popular animated series, stars SpongeBob himself as he guides the way with his “Bikini Bottom” pals: Patrick, Mr. Krabs, Sandy Cheeks and Plankton in this side-scrolling slap-happy extravaganza. King Neptune has misplaced an entire load of laundry after a massive underwater storm current and it’s up to eager SpongeBob fans to collect them all by searching the kitchens of the Krusty Krab, the cargo hold of the Flying Dutchman’s ship and even the Treasure Room of Atlantis. Collect 99 pairs of Neptune’s bloomers to complete the game in Quest Mode or beat the clock in Time Attack Mode.
Players can also join up to three other friends over Xbox LIVE, play single couch multiplayer Slam Mode, or try to avoid being “it” at Bikini Bottom in Tag Mode. The game will be available in North America for 800 Microsoft Points and is rated E for Everyone by the ESRB.
A Detroit judge has denied 80s band The Romantics’ request for Activision to stop using the song “What I Like About You” in Guitar Hero Rocks the 80s.
Activision had permission to use a cover band to make a recording of the song, but The Romantics said that the recording sounded too much like the original and could lead consumers to think that the recording was actually The Romantics.
The Romantics sought a preliminary injunction against the sales of Guitar Hero Rocks the 80s, along with compensatory and punitive damages. With this week's ruling of Judge Nancy G. Edmunds, sales of the game will continue as normal.
