Latest PS3 Firmware Reveals Achievements lolPublished by forahobby on Tuesday, July 01, 2008 Tagged: Gaming, Xbox 360, Xbox Live, With the latest PS3 firmware update it will now allow all PS3 gamers to collect trophies and compare accomplishments against their friends just like xbox 360 owners have been doing since day one with xbox live achievements.
I thought I'd share with you all the latest updates for our PS3 gamers out there who still think they have the best gaming system to date but unfortunately they are very wrong.. :)
Playstation 3 owners are now only just getting options which the Xbox 360 has had since 2005. Read on..
Here's what you get with the latest firmware update:
- A PlayStation Trophy system - The PS Trophy system is very similar to Xbox's achievement points system, that rewards gamers for performing tasks throughout a game. You can earn bronze, silver and gold trophies and if you collect them all, you get a platinum trophy. Your trophy collection becomes part of an expanded profile page, where friends will be able to see how you've been doing in various games and you're overall score. You can also pull a head-to-head comparison with a friend to compare trophies. Developers will be able to set up the trophies later this year and it should appear in new games this fall. It's also patch-able for older games so look out for that.
Wow, now doesnt that sound like your xbox 360 when you purchased it back in 2005 or 2006???? PS are still promising the world but have nothing to offer.
- In game access to the XMB, Sony's cross media bar menu - Before you had to jump out of game to check incoming messages on the XMB, see your friends list, change the settings on your voice changer or pair your Bluetooth device. Now, you can do it all without leaving the game just by pressing the PlayStation button on your controller. You'll want to pause your game first, but now you can message your friends, see an expanded friends list (upped to 100 friends) and do a bunch of other activities all within your game.
Fancy that, thats great, you can now actually msg people while your playing.. Just another feature the Xbox 360 has had since its initial release in 2005.
- Play Custom Soundtracks - Developers will be able to allow gamers to play their own music off the PS3 in place of the game soundtrack. It will all depend on whether a developer allows that but it can be included in new games and patched in older titles. Gamers can just pull up their music selection and place it over the game while keeping the game sounds intact. Since it's up to the developer to enable it, you might see some holdouts who want you to experience the game their way, soundtrack and all.
Yet again this is another feature all xbox 360's have standard as long as you have a Harddrive, USB Device or Network to stream you music from.
- Internet Search - Another goody is the ability to conduct Internet searches using Google from the XMB.
And why do you have a pc? lol
So all in all the latest PS3 update offers nothing new rather then playing catchup once again. Stick with the best gaming platform this generation and stay tuned to www.360-hq.com for all the latest 360 info including gaming (clans), hardware, homebrew, tutorials and more.
Sony will take the another step later this fall with the release of Home, the virtual reality component to its PlayStation Network
