I have a quick question. I bought a used Xbox 360 with a bad DVD drive. I got a new replacement drive and installed it. I can play movies on it but it doesn't see game disks. I have only tried retail disks. I do not have the old drive and do not know if it was the original or not. Is there any way I can get this working? I understand I am supposed to flash it , but can't find the software to flash it and have no idea how to get the key.
welcome to 360-hq notsoslim. alot of our guys won't be getting online until later tonight because of the time difference, and they will be able to help you much more than i will with this one. i'm more on the custom side of the spectrum then the hardware side. i can tell you that you typically have to replace the drive with the same make and model reguardless of how you do it.but until help arrives visit our tutorials section under hardware and you may find your answer as well. welcome and injoy _________________________________________________________

did find this...it may help? (i can't use the [youtube] tag here, just doesn't seem to work for me) this mentions "benq" drives...
hope it helps somehow?
i'm NO expert and just pulling my weight around here!
good luck to a resolution!
[edit] as above fellow stated, take a look at the tutorials, they will be plenty useful there... _________________________________________________________ to all my friends... farewell and all the best to future prosperity... and remember, be excellent to each other!
If your replacement drive is exactly the same as the old one, say it was a benq vad6038 model in the old system, and you got the same drive and model, then just swap out the pcb board from the old to the new one. No need to retrive the key off the old board and youre good to go.
Why didn't you just get a new laser for the old one?

If the replacement you have DOES NOT match the original drive, you will want to look into SPOOFING. YOu can spoof a drive so that it acts like any other brand. Learn more in my tutorial here:
Oh nice, 60 likes, so i must know what im talking about.. ahhahah lmfao. fancy that.
If you're wondering why it can only play DVD's and NOT RETAIL GAMES, it's because every single Xbox 360 DVDROM Drive has a unique key. When you replace the dvdrom drive, you must make sure that the unique key is injected into the replacement drive. You should also look into SPOOFING the drive. _________________________________________________________ HQ Network:
