AURORA, Colo. (AP) — A gunman wearing a gas mask set off an unknown gas and fired into a crowded movie theater in suburban Denver theater at a midnight opening of the Batman movie "The Dark Knight Rises," killing 14 people and injuring at least 50 others, authorities said.
Moviegoers didn't know what was happening and some thought the attack was part of the show. Then they saw a silhouette of a person in the smoke at the front of the theater near the screen, pointing a gun at the crowd.
"I told my friend 'we've got to get out of here,' but then he shot people trying to go out the exits," Jennifer Seeger told NBC's "Today." She said the shooter made his way up the aisle, shooting as he went, saying nothing.
Some of those injured are children, and victims are being treated for chemical exposure apparently related to canisters thrown by the gunman. The shooter, a man in his 20s, was arrested shortly after the attack at 12:30 a.m. MDT at the multiplex theater at a mall in Aurora.

It is nut jobs like this that make it hard for guys like me to get good guns and had one man with brains in that place had a gun and concealed carry permit the out come may have been very different, as for him telling them he is the joker i would say a f***ing joke at best.
D**kless morons always seem to pick helpless targets since the pu$$ys fear any thing that might fight back, shame we got to share are air with trash like this.
James Eagan Holmes was charged with 24 counts of murder Monday in the deaths of 12 people at a Batman movie premiere in Aurora, Colo.
The murder charges included one count of first degree "murder with deliberation" and another count of first degree murder of "extreme indifference to the value of human life" for each victim.
Holmes was also charged with 116 counts of attempted murder, according to court documents, as well as one count of illegal possession of explosives.
The defendant spoke once during the hearing, saying "yes" to waive his right to a preliminary hearing within 35 days
to be clear he actually got 2 counts of murder for each of the 12 killed and 2 counts of murder for each of the 52 injured plus 116 counts of attempted murder and the 1 count of illegal possession of explosives. the state of colorado has two different types of murder charges that can be used with one another explaining the two counts per person. the soonest sentencing hearing we can expect is November 15th _________________________________________________________
