Doesn't make sense to me!
Wired controller: long cord, light, just as sturdy, PC compatible (), never needs batteries...
Wireless controller: battery drainer, not PC compatible unless you have that receiver (the plug & play cable DOES NOT sync contrary to belief), bulkier due to its battery pack...
I love my wired controllers. It just confuses me how the wired one didn't survive. You can't even really find 'em in stores anymore! _________________________________________________________ slenderMITCH
Wireless ones are much easier to handle, has a much greater range, and the battery pack is no big deal. I have always had a wireless controller for my 360 and I would never get a wired one.
As for batteries I bought a nyko charge station about 3 weeks after I bought my 360 3 years ago. It only cost $20 and I have not bought a single battery for my controller since then, so just pick one of those babies up and your set. _________________________________________________________

Way back in the day TV remotes were wired, so why not use wired tv remotes now, no batteries to worry about, no loosing it so easy etc.
I will give you the number 1 reason wired fails... Kids! your controller is plugged into your system, you are sitting on your couch enjoying a good game, then here comes your kid or girl or buddy walks across in front of you and does not see the cord, Ether rips the cord out the the system or pulls the system down on the ground either doing damage to the system or scratching the hell out of the spinning disc inside. Also a cord is just something else in the way to clean up, wrap up when done, for the vacume to catch a hold of, to get tangled with other cords, something for a cat or dog to chew threw.
Its not that the wired failed, its just wireless is so much more easier to live with.

i swear i love my wireless controllers, when i had my xbox1 my controller lead went over the coffee table, and man if some one tripped on it drinks would go flying, ashtrays would be flipped, and even worse, i could get killed in game, while all the chaos is going on and man that sux. i got a play and charge kit and a quick charge kit, so i can pretty much have wired controller with that thing in but its useful having it wireless cos when ive got my headset on i sometimes end up going to the kitchen while still chatting to my friends with my pad while i fix up a drink or something to eat, otherwise id have to take my head of and put my controller down and thats just a complete waste of time lol!
