Hi, iam new in 360 side (but not on xbox1). Right now, Iam buying a 360.
I really need some advices/ links/ tut (I don't see on tut) anything about the 360 console (such as; which is DO NOT buy on specific year/serial#/ version#..etc.. or which is the best for the back up/Mod my own games..etc.....)
On the Xbox1, Samsung dvd/cd drive is the best, Ver 1.1, 1......<1.4 is the "best/easiest" to Mod....Kind like that.
I just want to start on the "right" way.
Any suggestion Please.....

i dont really think it matters what year or version you get its just luckin out and getting one doesn't overheat and give you the red ring of death...but i think they've pretty much gotten rid of the ones that were overheating....were you getting regular or elite?

Okay your biggest thing you are looking for in buying a 360 is too make sure it has a 175 watt power supply instead of a 203 watt power supply. The 175 has the newer falcon chip which doesn't get overheated as bad and requires less electricity too boot. Very Happy As far as the drives go I haven't a clue about ease of firmware mod. But someone should be along shortly too answer that too. Also if you have the extra cash I would suggest getting a elite 360 since they come with the 120 gb hard drive so you will have plenty of room for the big downloads. Very Happy I hope this helps and when you get your system let us know what one you decided to go with. Eithier way you are gonna love the games! Very Happy Enjoy! Very Happy

Well the newer ones have 65nm cpus and produce a lot less heat so you have a way less chance of the infamous red ring of death. I wrote a guide about it here and what to look for

http://www.360-hq.com/posts2915-highlightfalcon.html

If you look for anything December 2007 and later manufacture date your golden Smile

Also it is a very noticeable difference as I have had the first model of xbox 360 (xenon) and then I got the newer one (falcon) and the falcon produces a fraction of the heat.

And it won't directly advertise it is a falcon 360 so you will have to follow the steps In the post i linked to above. its best to check the manufacture date, then the power supply before you buy it Smile

If you have any other questions feel free to ask

Thansk so much...those are the one I need. Just wonder, how can you survive with the earlier chip xbox360 (before falcon)? Or most/all of you have overheating problem? Now I know why some stores or ebay selling the 360 Fan. (is that fan really worked/ protect the cpu from "burning"?)
I don't have plan getting the Elite, it is to much for me, Iam looking the cheaper ones.
The reason I have these question because Iam looking from Ebay (cheaper).
So there is a big chance I get the earlier model (maybe??, I hope not).
If the answer of my question above (older model always burn no matter has Fan or not) I think I have to change my mind to Not buy from Ebay.
Still need advice please.....

If you buy off ebay then your almost assuring yourself that you'll get one of the older chips. Older chips always break no matter what, the new chips haven't been out long enough to see if they all break. The only sure fire way to get the new chips is to buy a new xbox from the stores.

Iam so lucky become the member on this super cool forum, I can't imagine they are buying for +-$200 on Ebay for waiting to get the RROD! (well..I've known this forum is very cool since in the XboxHQ.com). I see on other thread ( need help buying Xbox 360) there is a link (www.xbox.com compare..something like that) There are comparison b/ween Xbox360(Arcade, elite, Premium/Pro??) Is that true, the Arcade Xbox360 only played Xbox360 games while the others played over 300 Xbox1 games?

Ok as far as modding goes I would say the easiest to mod is the samsung MS25, MS28 or the benq. The hitachi drives are easy to flash if you have onboard sata on you pc mobo or the right pci card but if you dont you have a big chance on bricking the hitachi drives. But those 3 are the easiest by far.

The Arcade can play original xbox games but you need to buy a hard drive which will just drive the price up to more then a pro, so if you want backwards compatibility go with a pro. And if you want to make sure it won't break on you buy a falcon and keep it in A WELL VENTILATED place.

Xbox.com comparison
http://www.xbox.com/en-US/hardware/compare101.htm

If you really want to buy from ebay do a search like this. And before buying make sure it has the falcon chip and 175w power supply.

Example search

Also take note that microsoft has been putting 203w stickers on the outside of the box to prevent people from looking for falcons (I got a falcon in a 203w box, but it had the right team name and lot so it was all good), make sure you check the bottom of the power supply for 175w because that is the only sure fire way to tell if you have a falcon without opening the xbox Smile
