when i put in any 360 disc, even BRAND new ones, it says:
"to play this disc, put it in an xbox 360 console." but when i put a dvd movie in it it reads fine.

ohh and actually now its working... f****** microsoft...
i imagine it will continue to be a problem because its happend before.
the remedy seems to be entering a game, dvd and then game again.
im not sure if this is consistent yet.

maybe try clearing your cache

Go to the system blade and then select memory, Press Y on the HDD symbol and then press X,X,Left Bumper, Right Bumper, X,X. Once you do this a message will appear saying: Do you want to perform maintenance on your Xbox 360 storage devices? say yes. a little note is this will delete all game updates which don't take that long to download anyways

I was gonna say it could be your dvd laser going out, but you said it plays dvd movies quite fine.

I have somewhat of a problem like this one except its for my hacked 360. It isnt reading any of my backups. it says to either clean the cd or to restart the console. my cds are fine and ive rebooted my console a couple of times. anyone know what i could do?

Your problem is the laser is going out.

Mine read DVD's fine too, but the games wouldn't.

I still need to turn my pot up a little more, sometimes it can't read games the first time.
