Well i was playing my xbox ealier tonight and it froze. I turned it back on and the screen goes blue and stops after a little bit. I then let it sit there for 2 hours and try it again, loads a game again, i go get a drink and some chips, come back and its a black screen. I turn it off and turn it back on and bam, Red lights of doom.

Gonna try this, hope it works-->X-Clamp DIY

I think this will work because sometimes it will start up again, and others it has 3 rings. So im almost positive that its the solder is lose.

If you receive graphical errors or crashes then the "Hot Air Gun Trick" is needed instead of the "Baking Trick". Because the Temperature is higher and the solder balls will bake much better then.

This is a quote from the site. Since my xbox screen either goes black or the screen color turns weird and freezes should i do the baking or hot air gun trick?

Well as it says their x-clamp fix is for the 3 red rings error.
Sounds like you may have some other issues to.

I'd still fit the xclmap eitherway.. you'll be another step close to a fix.

I was lucky in that I have never got around to cracking open my 360. I just got my replacement back from MS about 2 weeks ago.

Mine was doing the exact same thing. so I called and this fell under the 3 year warranty extension that MS gave to cover this problem. If it hadn't been covered I was going to try the hot air gun trick.

Im glad ive opened mine though, cuz my disk laser just died at the start of october. So i would have had to send it in for that, then 3 weeks after i got it back i would have to send it for this. That would have sucked.

I can't stress this enough. Do Not Use A Heat Gun, that is a quick fix and just makes the solder underneath the gpu/cpu that much more worse off. If you have done a controller led swap, or a rol led swap, you have seen the crap they call solder. I believe they went away from lead, and the solder they went with is utter crap.

Think about it, you heat reheat these bga connections, and it just degrades the solder everytime its heated to the melting point. The only correct way to do it is to reball it, and bake it. You can reflow, but removing the gpu/cpu, putting on good solder and baking it is the best way.

Now is that really within the grasp of the average user no, so just do what the first part of the tutorial says. Turn on the 360 let it hit 2rol, and I leave it for about 3-4 minutes. Let it cool down then tighten down the screws.

Furthermore they don't really talk about the amount of pressure you crank the screws to. Each 360 is a bit different, due to the flex in the board, so the amount of pressure does indeed change.

Lastly Id order at least the addon fan from Xcm. I believe its under a new name, but its a fan that sits in front of the cpu heatsink. It has a shroud that directs quite a bit of air over towards the gpu heatsink. You then install a air damn Xcm provides, put a piece of cardboard/tin foil over the gpu heatsink, about 3/4 of the length. Thus promoting more air flow over the heatsink.

When I combine all those steps, I get working 3rol's out of it. But don't get me wrong there are those excpetions out there, where the 360 is just dead. You get it going for a bit but in the end it keeps popping 3rol. So take that into account as well.
