Hey im sorry that i again am talking about hdtvs and not the xbox 360, but i posted a topic on here before and 'forahobby' replied, but when i went back to post more, the topic was gone. Im sorry if i am not allowed to talk on 360-hq about hdtvs, but i figured this would be one of the best places to do it, ya know since to get the full gaming experience an hdtv is required.

Anyways, i have been doing some research on hdtvs and the ones that i have my eye on are different and i wanted to know which you guys thought were better. First off there is a hdtv with DLP and the second is with PLASMA. Does anyone know which would be better in the long run? I learned that each have their flaws, but i would like some input. It will be appreciated.

In the end if you've narrowed your choice down the best thing to do is go see them in action and get the one that looks best to you. Each system has it's positive and negitive points.

As long as it's got component input and looks good to you go for it.

It's your preference but I prefer DLP. I'd go with Eltsha's suggestion.

There's a few specs that you MUST pay attention to. They will eventually tell the story and would be the exact reason that one unit looked better to you than the other if you were standing in front of it.

1. Contrast Ratio: First and foremost, this will determine how sharp the whites can be without blurring and how deep the blacks can go with getting the picture muddy. Look for the number of at LEAST 1000:1 but there are many out there with 1200:1 and 1600:1 (mine) at bargain prices. The higher end units will have 3000 to 10,000:1. Good areas to watch on this would be text areas. Which will normally utilize white text (or other color) on black background or the other way around. These 2 aspects will govern how bright and vivid your color will be able to be before bleeding all over the place.

2. Max Resolution: A gimme. The higher the number, the more pixels there are per square inch which translates into cleaner lines and vivid images without blur during motion (especially when it comes to action scenes) Also, the higher the Resolution, the more formats it will support. Look for 1080p or at least 1080i.

3. Response time: Accept no LESS than 8ms. Period. The current standard is 8ms but there are units out there that offer 6ms. This again, deals with the image that's being transmitted to the display and how fast it goes from being transmitted to being "translated" into your view, as well as, how well it deals with fast moving images.

4. HD/ATSC tuner built in. This will bring HD channels out of thin air even if you don't subscribe to cable. Of course there are only a few out there anyway...it will also pick up regular broadcast channels too. If you have a cable provider, it will combine all of them to view.

Those are the 4 cornerstones for me. You can also pay attention to ins/outs but, make sure you are getting at LEAST 1 HDMI input. I have an OLEVIA, 37 inch (official HDTV of ESPN) hehe that I can connect my laptop to and do everything from my easy chair. It can be split down the middle to view TV on one side and I can be surfin' on the other. There are more bells and whistles but, my point is, you can get what you want AND what you need at very reasonable prices. I found mine at Newegg.com $659.00 Just do your research.

Happy Hunting,

'Wuulfe
