The link to the Kreon Connectivity Kit is dead. I'm trying to find it through Google, but not having much luck.

Any major store has probes and connectivity kits:

http://team-xecuter.com/where-to-buy/

Also you don't have to use one from Team Xecuter

This is the one I used:

http://www.diygadget.com/game-console-adapters/connectivity-kit-v3-and-solderless-extractor-combo.html
This one uses a COM port, if you dont have a com port you can use a USB one

Again, this is my first step into the 360 Modding world. Ive done countless old Xbox's, but never a 360. So please forgive my lack of common sense here. After my first one, I'll be good to go. I don't know if I have the COM port or not. This is all Japanese to me. And you said I need to use one from Team Ex. Are you saying they are the only ones that will work for my drive?

I am sorry sometimes I "eat words". I mean you don't have to buy one from team Xecuter. The last 2 link i posted are not from team xecuter and I use those kits for years.

Basically you need a connectivity kit + a probe to grab the key from your drive.

The COM1 port is one like this:

If you dont have one, then buy a USB one like the last I posted

Gotcha. No worries at all. You are the teacher here. I'm in no position to correct anything. I do NOT have COM ports. I will be ordering a USB kit as soon as I round up a few extra bucks. I also see an option for a Liteon Switch 2.0 as an order add-on. Hoping I dont need that. I'm trying to go the cheapest route here. I realize this kit is a must to swap drives. I'm hoping I'll be able to use it for other 360 flashing projects in the future also.

More than likely the board is dead, or we can assume so, but did you just swap the drives completely. You wont be able to play games, but dvds will work. Id hate to think its a console issue. Also, if the laser is not moving at all, lets hope its a controller IC, and it's seperate from the IC which has has the drive key or it might be JTAG time to grab the key from the console itself.
I'll see if there is a fuse on the board to check if I have a drive here.
And DIYgadget products work fine, I use them too Smile

You only need the Connectivity kit and the probe.

Does the drive eject?

No it seemingly doesn't have any power. Doesn't even power the Xbox on when I try to press eject. The dashboard constantly says "opening"

If the drive doesn't power up you won't be able to retrieve the Key from it Sad

The only solution you have to replace it is either JTAG the console or send it to MS for repair (costs a lot)

Wait, I made that clear in my very first post. I thought that's what we were trying to fix here. Now I'm really confused. This was the whole point of me needing to change dvd drives. Do I need to JTAG it now or what? From what I can tell, it's not exploitable.

I thought the laser and motor were dead... Men how did the drive burn?

Anyway, only with JTAG you can get the damn key.

JTAG is a little hardcore, why don't you fix the RRoD consoles? You can fix them and sell them.
