So it turns out that yesterday the ONLY rock station in Portland was taken off the air. Rock 101 KUFO was broadcasted on 101.1 FM since before I was born, and I have many fond memories of my neighbor out working on his truck in the mid 90's with KUFO blasting from his garage. I remember driving around with my dad in our old 1981 Camaro when I was 4 with KUFO on the radio. They have now canned the station for KXL, a conservative talk radio channel that will play Glenn Beck and Lars Larson. KUFO had a repetitive playlist and an a crappy DJ in the afternoons, but it was all we had. It was either KUFO or country or top 40 stations around here.
Anyways, with that out of the way I'll get onto my real question: what do I do now? I used to listen to the Kidd Chris show every morning on the way to school. Now with the only rock station in Portland gone, I have nothing else to listen to. My cars radio doesn't have an AUX port for my ipod, so I'm limited to cds. Since my car is a 1991 Camaro, there isn't a ton of storage space for cds, so I can only carry about 5-7 of them with me at a time. I don't have satellite radio either.
So what would you guys do? Buy a new radio that has an AUX port? Buy a big cd case that I could throw on the back seat that holds 50 cds or so? Or just rotate through 5-7 cds constantly?
On a side note: While doing some research I found out that some of the DJ's that got fired are trying to get it back on air but on a different station. We'll see how that goes I guess.
They really did this in a dick way. There was no warning that it was going away and they just cut it off halfway through the morning show and replaced it with talk radio. On the way to school everything was normal, and then at lunch and after school it was all of a sudden talk radio. I guess none of the DJ's knew about it either because they said after the show got cut the execs came in and said "Thanks for your time, but we aren't your employers anymore". So pretty much this whole thing was out of the blue for listeners and workers. _________________________________________________________

wow man, imagine being one of the DJ's and you have a job then all of a sudden shit hits the fan.. Hopefully they might even think about trying to get their own radio station license and open a smaller studio or something..
Oh, and when i read your story it reminded me of the change from AM radio to FM when i was a kid with my dad, i still remember the exact day the clarity and quality changed, very cool!
let us know what you end up doing, i guess id just load up my ipod/iphone with loads of tunes. Maybe even start downloading some podcasts to listen to. _________________________________________________________ HQ Network:

I would purchase a new radio for your car. Something with a aux jack and also the ability to play satellite radio. I am a big fan of XM radio and its pretty cheap too purchase now too. About 9.99 a month. Normal radio stations are really going extreme on advertising nowadays which means less songs and more ads and talk. _________________________________________________________

what setup you running in your car rebel? do you have satellite radio or only at home?
We have both in car and home satellite radio. I am using pioneer head with aux jack and XM capabilities....it also has a usb jack which comes in handy with my smartphone and it also plays dvd's,cd's and mp3. _________________________________________________________
Well I can't really afford XM radio right now since I still do not have a job despite applying to everything around my house. The aux jack would be cool but I don't even really take my ipod around with me that often. It's bulky because it's a 5th gen video and I'm always paranoid about someone stealing it. I also usually only drive for 10-15 minutes at a time. Hopefully they can get free radio back together.
The dvd method would be cool....I may have to look into that. _________________________________________________________
Well this is interesting. One of the DJ's from KUFO, Marconi, has created a new facebook page that says he is going to try to bring KUFO back. He also stated that there will be an announcement tomorrow morning at 9 am. I am interested to say the least.
It may come back as an online radio only service with a monthly subscription fee, but I think I'd probably pay for it just for the podcasts and talk shows.
