I did try 720p and my screen just went blank for a while and then it reverted back to 480p, so i just assumed that 1080p would do the same.

Still running 1080i on my TV here although I did try 1080p the other day and just ended up with a split image on the screen. Sad

Well my setup is using 1080p using Gateways FPD2185W widescreen monitor 1920x1080 @60.2Hz using the vga adapter so basically it is 1080p. Although the monitor has a component it only does 720p/1080i. All I have to do now is get myself a 5.1 system or getmyself a x-fi card with the adon dock unless I get the premium version so I have 5.1/7.1 sound.

I don't know if the latest live patch made it so it upsampled my dvd movies but under my res setting on my monitor it still stays at 1920x1080 instead of lower res. Curious indeed my only gripe is I didn't know there was a 24" modle when I got my 21", and the 19+23" sucks because of the contrast rate low so if you're thinking about geting this type of monitor either go with the 21" or the 24". For pc the 21" doesn't do 1920x1080 res since the highest supported is 1680x1050 but the 24" can.

I'm just glad my monitor really is 1080p on the 360 so I can actually watch hd-dvd on it without loss of picture or downscaling. The DVI-D adapter for the pc input has HDCP chip so vista friendly also!! Not bad for being under $500 USD and it is crisper then the samsung monitor that best buy or walmart uses for their kiosk IMO.

Well as I said my TV only does 720P But I still think it looks great,,,,, a little to great sometimes. You can easily tell the Superman is 100% CGI on some slow moving closeup shots in Superman Returns HD-DVD when he is just hovering there.

eltsha - when I bought my 360, I didn't have a [true] HDTV either, but if you buy the MS VGA HD AV cable ($40), you can play in High definition (and widescreen) if you plug it into almost any computer monitor (must have a D-Sub input, 15 pin connector; to connect with the VGA HD AV cable). It may be a smaller picture, but it will be crystal clear HD. That's what I did with my 17" CRT computer monitor.

I liked HD so much better that I ended up buying a 24" LCD wide screen monitor (Acer AL2423W from Newegg) so I can use it for my pc and my 360. Now i have the ability to play my 360 in 1080p, better than most HDTVs can do and for a whole lot less $. I definitely don't regret it! However, I'm having some issues getting the xbox 360 to correctly output at 1080p at the moment.

If anyone wants to go this route let me know. I did a lot of research before I did.

Thanks for the info, trouble is my 360 sits in my front room and i cant see my wife allowing another screen. I do have a 19" monitor on my PC and I am tempted to buy the cables to hook it up to that and see how good it would look, but then i know i would just want that HDTV even more and i just can't afford one at the moment.

Looks like i'm just going to have to keep saving my pennies to buy a HDTV

Yeah, I hear ya. And props for knowing yourself. This 360, though tons of fun, has been a money hog for me...even when trying to save on every purchase. Fortuantely (or unfortunately Sad ) I'm still single, so I have some change to put into it.

I've got a Viewsonic N4060W 40 Inch HD LCD Tv.

Bagged an absolute bargain here at currys.co.uk (£500). They have no more left at all and everywhere else wants about £1000 for them.

Anyway, when I have the 360 connected via the pc port it displays at 1360 x 768. When not connected via pc port I get 720p
