I run in 1080i since my TV does not do 720P. No problems. 720p is actually visually better than 1080i. I hope to get a bigger screen next fall that does 720p, 1080i and 1080p

But I am still happy in 1080i Very Happy

Yup, The way the scan is you see 720 at once with 720p. With 1080i you see 540 at a given moment because it alternates on each. 1080i does have 1080 but it is less crisp more of a flicker. I seen em all including 1080p video recordings. Go a head and try it out. It will also depend on the game. I think they all do 720p right? Let me know your results please.

My 360 is set to 720p.. My HDTV supports all modes..
I did some reading when i bought the console and everyone was recommending running 720p..

The main reason is that some tv's flicker to a blue screen etc when they are changing modes.. This doesnt really look too great.

I had this happen to me on one game when i was running 1080 but cant remember now.

good topic boys

Which is better,,,,

Think of it in computer gaming terms and you see why it is such a hard question to answer, so it realy depends on detail of the image vs motion speed of the image.

SDTV 640x480 @ 30fps interlaced

EDTV 852x480 @ 60fps

HDTV 1280x720 @ 60fps
720p

HDTV 1920x1080 @ 30fps interlaced
1080i

HDTV 1920x1080 @ 60fps

Also remember that it is amazing on how different each HDTV can be.

Some claim to display in all modes but may either up-convert or down convert to its actual native mode or you have your device do the converting. Neither is the best scenario. It is always best to display in equality. 720P media on 720p native resolution and so on. However, the conversion from 720p to 1080i that the 360 does on most 360 games for me is sweet. They would be more crisp with less flicker meaning faster frame rate but also full frames displayed per pass if I could see them in the 720p mode on my HDTV.

There is more to it than 30 FPS vs 60 FPS but that is a factor and most people can actually notice this (some can not) which contributes to the flicker I can detect on interlaced resolutions. It is also scan lines alternated or not. One way of of lessening the flicker on interlaced displays is to increase the frequency, MHz of the signal. Let's just say, there is more than meets the Shocked and I'm drooling for 1080p movies! He He He!

I finally figured what was causing my blue screen on 720P or 1080i, the problem was the video conversion from my Yamaha receiver. Once I connected the component cables straight to the tv, problem solved. Very Happy Now I can run 720p or 1080i without the annoying blue screen in the middle of games.. I still think 720p looks better on LCD's, I'm only willing to go past that if my tv were to support 1080p, and that ain't happening for a while until I buy a new tv..

My Samsung loves the 1080i mode and thats pretty much what I run in all the time, i've also tried it in the other modes and i've not seen any flicker or blue screen issues so far. Smile

So 1080i all the way. Wink

I tried to run 1080p on mine over the M$ VGA HD AV cable on my native 1920x1200 native monitor, but am unable get it to work for unknown reasons.

So I'm running at 720p and it still looks great!
