Hi gang, I can't see this in recent threads so I'm just going to go for it and apologise in advance if theres a fix that I haven't seen.

EVER since the new update I've experienced absolutely shocking xbox live performance. I'm talking across the board, trying to play Halo 3 ODST the lag is unplayable, its about 2 frames every 5 minutes. Watching Sky Player is 9 times out of 10 a waste of time as it is constantly buffering EVEN on the lowest quality settings. Downloads of even the smallest amounts take forever too.

Now your probably going to suggest checking the network connection, my wireless network strength, turn off and on, turn all other equipment off etc etc, I have done all of the above and STILL the performance is horrible. Whats more is that the internet is working perfectly on my laptop and desktop, the sky player works fine on my laptop and when I go on xbox live I never leave either online.

I have heard some comments about wireless being a problem lately but SURELY if my network tests etc all come back with full bars, perfect connections and the rest then it can't be the wireless right? Also today was the FIRST day I was able to connect to xbox.com so that has to say something too right? Anyway so the bottom line is that ever since the update the performance has been terrible, to the point of not being able to play online AT ALL and not being able to use Sky Player online AT ALL.

I have tried all the tests I can think of, I even cleared the harddrives cache but nadda zip zilch. So can anyone help at all? Is it a question of Microsoft broke everyones xbox's with the new update and we all suddenly have to use wired?? Because that would be hilarious seeing as they spent the time, money and effort to make the new 360 250gb Slim model WIRELESS built in.... right??

Any tips or solutions would be greatly appreciated.

I'm using a wired connection and nothing has changed at all in MW2 for me.

I'm thinking that maybe something else has appeared in your house and is interrupting the wireless signal.

that is possible I admit... I don't know a huge amount about wireless but if I recount the events:

360 began to disconnect about 3-4 times per night but no lag over the later Summer months

fixed this problem eventually after tinkering with my NAT, Ports limits etc blah blah

no disconnections or lag until after the update

Since the update I have experienced serious lag and slow down on anything: ODST is unplayable, Sky Player is unwatchable, friends list is slow, download of updates as small as 3mb is infuriatingly slow and pretty much everything tied to live is the same

My WIRELESS laptop runs perfectly fine as does my LAN connected desktop... it is purely limited to the 360

I am going to try a wired connection tonite and I am also getting the new 360s + Kinect tonight so I will let you all know how it turns out. HOPEFULLY it was just my wireless being a problem but I can't understand why it has only caused trouble on the 360.

Please bear in mind that I am CURRENTLY still on the old ELITE style 360, might that be the reason?

Im on a old arcade unit and i havent experienced much lag, well black ops was so unreliable and not that great of a game so i returned it! have you tried clearing your cache? that might help, what kind of security do you have on your wireless? maybe someone is leeching your internet causing more lag?

sorry I did clean the Cache yes, forgot to mention that one. I'm not sure what the settings are now but I was suspicious of the NAT settings problem when I got a new Wireless router from Orange back earlier in the year. Ever since the new router arrived it would disconnect me so I spent months fixing it and opening the ports etc, changing security settings and playing with the limits etc. I know for a fact that everything I did was instructed to me from Orange or Microsoft so it can't have broken suddenly after months of perfect behaviour, I never got a disconnect again after I fumbled with the settings... it was purely after the update, the last disconnect was back in september, the update was late october/early november.

Anyway I will be checking it out via WIRED connection tonite and will let you guys know if the problem persists and if the wireless can be ruled out or not.

Thanks for your help/suggestions so far

Is it possible that ip address might have changed after the update, resulting in your setup getting screwed, sorta thing has happened to me before, when i have everything set, something goes wrong and an ip address or dchp is changed randomly and everything goes to hell!

Hey UltraPro,

Don't think your alone bro, I've been having loads of issues too.
Im running a wired connection and still getting the shits. lol

I join games with a bunch of friends in a party then i drop out only to have XBOX LIVE disconnect.. Then when i reconnect i get nothing but lag.

I've been playing with my network config here at home to try and determine what is going on but from what i can tell Xbox LIVE is definitely having issues..

anyway, Im upgrading my net this week to the best package and nabbing a new router so we will soon see if it my router at home or something at causing the issue.. I dont think so, since i have been on Xbox LIVE for 5 years now.

Yep its definitely xbox live. All you have to do is go to xbox.com and read the forums. You are not alone. Everyone has had some kind of issues since patch. Microsoft techies are working on it or say they are. I imagine it is the same thing that happened a couple of Christmases ago when COD came out. Too many people and not enough server to handle the huge amounts of people trying too play Halo Reach or COD black ops or it might just be a buggy patch. Either way it is messed up. Sad

@forahobby

Cheers dude, and everyone else, its a real pain in the arse to think I had it all sorted then it all just went down the can again!

Anyway so last night I got the new 360s 250gb Kinect bundle and installed it all (EVENTUALLY) AND I have put a wire into the living room rather than trying to bother with wireless... the results so far have been a marked improvement! I watched Sky Player (Via kinect I might add) and it worked perfectly, no buffering, highest speed... perfect! So I thought it must be a stroke of luck, it won't last.. so I tried ODST with a friend and yup! It worked perfectly!

Now I realise that its too soon to know anything for sure but I'm certainly a damn site happier than I was... I just need to go through the nightmare of downloading all my content AGAIN Crying or Very sad

Anyway thanks guys, I will let you know if the problem occurs again or if I am truly in the clear soon

ok so 2 days later and I've installed the new 360 AND Kinect successfully... and I use the term successfully loosely!

Let me just advise anyone who has a game history as large as mine to have an external harddrive empty and ready to use because I had a nightmare moving my saves from the old 360 to the new one! I had to first clean it down which was hell because it seems its getting bad sectors. THEN I had to delete all the really large downloads like Tomb Raider Anniversary and the dlc for Borderlands etc, THEN I had to transfer what I could to the external drive, THEN move it to the new one. Not to mention transferring my profiles etc.

But once it was all done and my licenses were transferred and I got all the Kinect settings sorted it finally dawned on me just how awesome the new 360 is and the Kinect...

Anyway the bottom line is that I didn't waste any time, I got a network cable and ran it all round the flat to make sure my 360 was connected via a cable, I tried out Sky Player and I must confess the quality was unbelievable, no buffering, no slow pane loading, no low quality, it was excellent. So then I thought "Dare I attempt a firefight match on ODST?" needless to say I attempted it and I'm pretty sure I jizzed in my pants!! seriously though It was actually faster than I think I've ever seen it run! NO stuttering, no lagging even a little! No freezing... it was crystal and seemless.

So last night I tried a firefight with 3 people and it was still nigh on perfect!

So thankfully it looks like, for now at least, I'm out of the woods and back on track... lets just see how it holds up going forward huh
