If you can watch xvid on your pc then the codec is ready to be used..
If its not showing up in VirtualDub just look for a XVID standalone codec to install..

It should just give you a option in the compression menu under "video".

Hello there i have been having problems using about 90% of my divx files to find out they are all divx3 low motion is there any way i can do a simple conversion with these files and still keep them an avi?

Hi Teammia,

Welcome to 360-HQ.

You could use a program like "VIRTUALDUB" (free) which you can convert to whatever codec you want including DIVX or XVID.

http://virtualdub.sourceforge.net/

Its pretty easy to use but id say you will need to read up a little bit.
Really all you have to do is open any file you want to convert from old DIVX to new DIVX in virtua dub.

Then choose FULL PROCESSING mode from the Video menu and choose COMPRESSION.. Make sure you choose the codec you want.. eg XVID or DIVX 5.11 etc etc..

Check to make sure that AUDIO options are set to: DIRECT STREAM COPY.

Then choose save as and give your pc a few minutes to convert.

DONE & DONE!.

hope that helps mate, enjoy the site,

hobbs

First, sorry I quoted so much, I'm new. Second, I wanted to ask my question I used the GSpot program you suggested and it showed that I have videos in avi format using a DivX 4 (OpenDivX) codec and it will not play on my xbox. I would like to convert it to DivX 5 codec so that I can play it but the program VirtualDub won't even open the file to be able to convert it because of the codec.

Any suggestions?

Yes, i have a suggestion..

Simple install a codec pack of some kind..
Preferably a codec pack which has everything like xvid, divx etc etc..
Here is a link.. Hope it helps you get started.

K-Lite Codec Pack 5.9.0 Full, Standard and Basic
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/k_lite_codec_pack.htm

There are so many different codec packs but you only need to install one which covers everything like the one i have linked you to above.. Smile

I will eventually get around to writing a new tutorial when i get time explaining the full process with screenshots.

cheers,

hobbs
