The "Blu-Ray WINS" article is in dire need of a response. Firstly, (and this should save me quite a bit of typing). MS confirmed MONTHS ago that it was already in Pre-Production Planning of it's new console. So, there will be no chilling fright hitting the MS camp. Blu-Ray is only a media platform upon which many programmers still haven't matched the learning curve for. This is the biggest reason for the slow increase in game selection for the PS3. Manufacturers will NOT be "jumping" ship quite so fast. Many WILL support both formats because the bottom line demands it. The numbers of 360 & Wii consoles in homes are too staggering to ignore. They would be programming themselves into a tunnel if they only supported Blu-Ray.
Remember, when it comes to this whole "PS3/360/Wii" competition, it's generally a GAMING populace. The Blu-Ray win (which is STILL not completed) though this writer believes it will eventually happen, will get it's bulk of benefit and bragging rights within the MOVIE industry.
Let's remember that manufacturers already have the curve down on HD and therefore, will be able to produce faster and without additional investments for conversion to make a $ off of the Overwhelming population of consoles that support that format in gaming.
Furthermore, this is STILL a world of economics and budgets. Families will NOT rush out and abandon their current consoles in a "knee jerk" reaction to the DEVELOPING (not complete) swing of support to Blu-Ray.
MS has already established themselves as the console leader in the U.S. and gamers that want to game online or be compatible with their friends are simply going to stick with the console that their friends have. Parents, young adults, casual gamers...have budgets and unless Sony lowers it's pricing again, you WILL NOT see a swing of the pendulum change the leader in the U.S.
Here's the kicker and the perverbial "nail in the coffin" to the entire PS3 crowd shaking a fist and declaring "We'll catch you 360 & Wii...SOMEDAY!" and when we do...We'll LEAVE YOU IN THE DUST". Microsoft has seemingly remedied itself from the plroblematic consoles of the past batches that shipped in the first year. The turn-ins are down. AND (this is the priceless) MS has already stated that if they "felt" it was truly pivotal and it's what the "majority" of the consumers wanted, they would consider supporting the Blu-Ray format..... ..... ...... Hmmmm.... ..... I'm hearing crickets..... NOW WHAT will the SONY camp do?!?!?
It IS agreed that Blu-Ray IS the leader in movie DVD sales industry. And it IS agreed that there will only be an increasing lead and seperation between Blu-Ray & HD sales. And it IS agreed that Blu-Ray will eventually and most certainly be able to crown itself KING in that media war. However, I don't seriously believe that it will make a huge difference in the gaming console war...which IS mainly for gamers. Which mainly care about who supports and provides the games that they want to play.
There is a market of drastically declining HD & Blu-Ray movie players out there that will sell quicker and follow the flow of the format war faster than the gaming consoles.
The bottom line is this: By the time it takes for all of these variables and parameters come to fruition to facilitate this "swing" of console leadership in favor of PS3, MS will most certainly be on the brink of releasing their new console and probably Nintendo will be poised to do so as well. If you're planning on jumping ship...PLEASE! Take a life raft or some sort of floatation device, because your dream won't be saving you in the near future.

you know what? I don't care whether HD-DVD or BLURAY becomes a standard for gaming or movies.. It really makes no difference to me the end gamer..

All this hype about blu-ray really is a waste of time.. Do you think people would have been putting up stories about BETA vs VHS in the 80's? lol

Im actually glad that xbox 360 is focusing on the gaming and downloadblae content more then HD-DVD especially since they mentioned they may even include an add-on blu-ray drive for the 360 if need be.

You do know why they are saying this dont you..?? Its because downloadable content is the future and all these BLU-RAY and HD-DVD discs will be useless.

I personally believe it was M$'s plan to throw in HD-DVD into the battle just so it gives downloadable content time to become more mainstream. With the new Xbox Live Marketplace its certainly coming quick.

Anyway, I used to be into DVD's/movies years ago and have a collection of over 400+ original dvd's but even i dont care about hd-dvd or bluray and ive got the HDTV and all the gear to go with it. I bought my 360 for gaming not movies..

just my 2 cents,

hobbs

Seems as though my little bit of news i found last night made a bit hit on here.

I believe the same as you guys for a few reasons:

1. I want a gaming console for games, not playing movies. Thats why i have a dvd player.

2. I dont have a hdtv even so this doesn't apply to me.

3. As hdd's get bigger and cheaper downloadable movies will be the way of choice, kind of like on demand is becoming for movie rentals.

4. Format wars are stupid. They should just make players that will play both and just go from there.

When i say old people i mean mostly middle and way older not just old people in general i dont want to go back through and change everything so ill clear that up here lmao. I ramble on to much about things that tick me off sorry ha.

If you look at it companies are just looking for more way to make more money they always are and always will if they stop trying to make something new they will still make millions but there looking to make billions or trillions no mater what there going to come out with something new and say how good it is. People say they notice the diffrence and all that well good for you how much better can it get i watch a movie on my lcd tv and then watch one on the tube tv ya there is a little bit diffrence but i dont care. The main reason why i got a lcd tv was they were space savers not a huge thing taking up space.

So as a end gamer like myself i mean we have came far from graphics and that which i think is pretty sweet but when they try targeting older people that they have to get these newer things or be left in the dust thats bs. I was hearing something i think my mom told me about it and thats were everything will be going in hd soon on cable or sat and you need to have a tv that is hd capable i told her if that ever happens sew the shit out of them because not everyone can afford these things it took me awhile to get the things i have now and not everyone can get them and for them to cut out the lower class people is pathetic.

Lower class people are the back bone of almost all countries we are the ones doing the harder work labor wise and were the ones geting shafted. Only if these freaking companies would realize that instead of trying to get older people to buy a tv that is lcd hdmi hd ready blah blah making them waiste there money cus they dont even know what your even talking about . Well most of them dont anyways i see it all the time when i go to like best buy and other places sales people trying to jew the hell out of these old people and i walk right up to them and tell them hey this tv right here is at walmart for $300 less and does all these same features and they arent trying to jew you in geting it. Sorry guys i just kinda get pissed about shit like this. Blu-Ray HD all this come on make up your freakin mind pretty soon regular dvds will be vhs to are kids lmao. I give up I cant change the world lmao.. If i had to pic between Blu-Ray and HD i would choose: A FREAKING REGULAR DVD!!!!! AND SAVE $20 ever time quality is still pretty much the same even though im probly going to get someone on here saying it is not the same what ever i dont really care i look at saving money not keep wasting it on it now if they would make blue ray and hd affordable that would be a diffrent story.

Gamer wise though just put a console in front of me with good graphics and im happy o and no bad problems like the 3rod anymore lmao. I might of gibber gabbered off subject but thats me for ya lmao..

Good Day All.

I personally like HD-DVD over Blueray because it is faster. This means less waiting time and less glitches. Storage space is irrelevant as they just make newer formats that hold more data.

Anyway I agree completely with Randwuulfe. Movies will have no or limited affect on gaming consoles. The system with the most games has always proven to win. While quality is important it does not win in this battle. The original Xbox had quality games but PS2 had quantity and the PS2 won.

What happens when you have both quantity and quality in games as does the 360? My bet is with the 360 on top. Since Microsoft can release a blueray player at any times the media war is mute when it comes to games and gaming consoles.

All the hype is just trying to make the PS3 seem viable. Will they ever give up? Of course not, it's all part of the struggle. For me, I have decided not to support Sony and the PS3 at all, even if I have the extra cash. The reason is that there are far to many good quality games on the 360 now and I can't keep up with them all and many more are on the way. There is no point for me to have another game system at this point in time when there are already almost 400 games playable on the 360 now.

Oh and media downloads are the true future of HD content and movies. The only thing is that I do like to own a copy of the movies I buy but really how many times do you actually watch them an then in time you find you have a bunch of media you are ready to through out?

Well, this is just some of my rambling thoughts, cheers and play hard!

We're stationed in Fort Stewart, GA USA. Right now we're about to comeback from Iraq...again...3rd tour in 5 years. Hopefully the next president won't play that game with us anymore.
