Hi,

I have xbox slim and the default MS wireless controller has recently intermittently displayed a yellow light at position one, sometimes its green however, i still cannot use it.

I have tried resyncung to the xbox, i have changed the batteries, sometimes i get no lights, my thought is something shorting and perhaps draining the batteries very quickly as when it does stop showing a light, i cycle through my other batteries and see the yellow or fixed green.

I have stripped the controller, but cannot see anything broken. I did gently clean off a couple of areas that looked as if they had a slight crust over them but still no success.

Do you have any idea what the light behaviour means or any thoughts on what this commonly means please?

Ta

Hi Buuuug and welcome to HQ.

No, I have no idea what could be causing this issue and nor have i ever had this problem before. I'll do some digging around and see if i can find some info on your problem. Hopefully another HQ member might reply with some info.

UPDATE:
The only thing i could think of that could be causing this would be a faulty controller or interference. eg. a cordless phone, router etc etc.

Here's some help from the official xbox.com website:
http://support.xbox.com/en-AU/xbox-360/accessories/wireless-controller-disconnects-frequently-or-cannot-connect

I have no doubt you have already tried all of these options.

I haven't had this happen ether. or ever heard of it, but I can say that most likely the controller has just called it quits. A dead chip. or sensor more than likely, borrow a friends if you can and that will tell you if its the controller or the console, if it still does it it might be the sensor in the console. Hope this helps a bit and welcome to the site!

Hi guys

Thanks for the responses.

I had our electrician team look at it yesterday and they agree with you two, its bin food so i will need to buy a new one at the weekend.

I only bought it may 2012 so a bit disappointed it has broken so soon but perhaps its the one in a blue moon!

Great site, i will trawl over it soon as many things here i never thought to think about!

never seen this before but im guessing its a bad solder somewhere near the standard led inside the controller not sure if its fixable since it will be hard to find the solder joint im sure you can find it with googles help look for a xbox controller breakdown, but I recommend just getting a new or used one as they are pretty cheap now, kudos bro welcome to the HQ Very Happy

Same thing actually happened to one of my controllers, except all the lights would simply stay a solid green and nothing else. Looks like there is some bad components on the board in which I will try fixing sometime, haven't got around to doing it yet though!
