hey guys dont know if this been asked or not but i just got a new 360 elite and it has the option to put hdmi, i used to run Monster Componets with digital toslink optical cable and my question is what would be a better choice
monster componet with digital optical toslink cable or MS HDMI?
i know that componet is analog and hdmi is digital so i guess that could be the short answer but then again monster makes good matirial stuff too

Since your TV isn't 1080P it shouldn't matter all that much. I can't comment on the Monster cable per say but if you are looking at 720P and 1080i it shouldn't matter either way.
The only advantage to the MS HDMI cable is 1080P plus digital sound combined nice and neat.
Since you have the monster cable already it seems logical to use it to me.

well the audio is digital both way because hdmi is a digital method and the digital optical toslink is also digital

I use a brand of hdmi I've never even heard of, and it looks amazing. Gold plated and everything. I got it for 20$ so it was well worth it, and picture quality is amazing. I think with monster cables your paying more for the brand then anything.
Also if your using your tv speakers then using the hdmi for audio is fine, where as if your using a stereo system it would be best to put the toslink directly into the stereo system so you get no audio lag (for games like Guitar Hero).

I would go the monster cables bud. As you have stated the highest res you can get on your tv is 1080i on component. And besides, you already have the component cables. I have seen 1080i and 1080p running side by side and the diffeence isnt that great. Sure 1080p looks a little better on fast moving stuff but it isnt enough of a diffence that you need to go out and buy new gear. i didnt buy the monster componet cables i already had them, nor i didnt buy the ms hdmi cable it was provided with the elite i bought.

I think hdmi produces the best picture quality from my own testing, and what I've read on it. I used to use component on my tv until I got my falcon. When I got my falcon I started using hdmi and I can tell a difference in picture quality. Its not a huge difference, but if your into the best quality and can tell the difference like me then you will want to go with hdmi. I buy all my cables from a seller on ebay his seller name is hdmikings and they sell very high quality cables for very cheap. You guys should check them out. He also ships lightning quick. I too think monster cables are way overated. Definetly not worth the astronomical price. _________________________________________________________
