Hello, everyone. I am encountering problems connecting to Xbox Live. My Xbox 360 connects directly to my Terayon Modem, I had xbox live running a few months ago, when i had my free trial. I have reactived my live membership, with those 48 trial passcodes you get from games. But i havent connected to live in a while now. When i go to test my connection. At first my ip failed. It was set to "automatic" and the ip adress, subnet mask, and gate way were all at : 0.0.0. So i had to manually change them ( i just went to run and type "cmd" and ipconfig /all. Now i can pass the IP Adress test, but i always fail my DNS Test

in cmd ipconfig/ all

its says for DNS
DNS Servers : 64.59.135.133
64.59.135.135

In the test connection, i entered
64.59.135.133 for Primary DNS
and 64.59.135.135 for secondary DNS

And it still fails the test. I have switched the two around, and it still fails. I read somewhere that you can enter your gateway into primary and secondary dns and it will work. But when i did that it still fails..

All my settings have to be manually put in. I tired to change it to automatic, and it always just fails. Everything gets put back to 0.0.0
Ive tried to restore to the default factory settings that didnt work.

When i typed in CMD,

Under Windows ID confiquration

it says

Host name : (my pc name)
Primary DNS suffix: (is empty? is that an error? )
Node Type: Unknown
DNS suffix Search List: ib.shawcable.net

Is there something i am doing wrong to make my DNS Test always fail?

thanks

Hi farfromruin,

What is the IP Address of the computer/router/modem that is sharing the internet.. If your modem has a ip address something like "192.168.0.100" then your xbox should be setup something like this.

Sample Xbox 360 Manual Settings:
IP: 192.168.0.2
GATEWAY: 192.168.0.100
DNS1: 64.59.135.133
DNS2: 64.59.135.135

We need to find out what is sharing the internet.. Your computer or the modem.. My guess would be the modem..

anyway, hope that helps..
