New Line Home Entertainment has confirmed that it plans to drop support for Toshiba's HD DVD format in favour of Sony's Blu-ray platform, according to an article in the Hollywood Reporter.
The news comes after last week's announcement by Warner Bros that it would be following a Blu-ray-exclusive path from now on, a move which led to the cancellation of the HD DVD press conference at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
US TV giant HBO will also follow suit, meaning that in future some of the most popular TV series' such as The Sopranos, will not be released on the HD DVD format at all.
Recently Microsoft, which had been seen to favour the HD DVD format with the release of its Xbox 360 player attachment, stated that it had no preference on format, and that if necessary it could release a Blu-ray attachment as appropriate.

List of Cancelled Cross-platform Games
These cross-platform cancellations are probably the result of growing competition in the GTA-clone genre. GTA IV, The Godfather, and Saint's Row have a large amount of buzz and are probably scaring off less ambitious projects.
This GTA style action game begins with Al Pacino's character surviving the gunfight at the end of the movie, allowing the player to rebuild his cocaine empire. Development is nearing completion on the PS2, Xbox, and PC. The 360/PS3 versions have been cancelled although a PSP version has been added.
Based off of the popular mob drama on HBO, this action game was planned for release on PS2, PS3, and Xbox 360. THQ has cancelled the PS3 version due to lack of dev kits and cancelled the 360 version because it "didn't look all that much better than the PS2 version."
This 360 exclusive features Hitman style assassinations in a futuristic city. Unfortunately because of numerous delays and an unimpressive media response Namco has decided to cancel the project.
