On the heels of the expanded Platinum Hits launch in Europe earlier this month, Microsoft Corp. today announced that the next round of titles in the Xbox 360 Platinum Hits library will be available March 16 in North America, Latin America, Japan and the Asia Pacific region.
Next month’s Platinum Hits releases include critically acclaimed games from the industry’s leading publishers, including Activision Publishing Inc.’s “Call of Duty 2,” Electronic Arts Inc.’s “EA SPORTS™ Fight Night Round 3,” Ubisoft Entertainment’s “Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter” and 2K Sport’s “Top Spin 2.” This lineup of Platinum Hits represents some of the best high-definition titles available on Xbox 360 at an appealing price.
Next month’s Platinum Hits release, starting at an estimated retail price of $29.99 (U.S.), will include the following titles in the Americas:
Gamers throughout Europe are able to pick up the following new Platinum Hits titles, launched earlier this month, for an estimated retail price of 29.99 euros:
“Platinum Hits not only lets gamers enjoy a broad portfolio of titles at an amazing price,” said Jeff Bell, corporate vice president of Global Marketing for the Interactive Entertainment Business at Microsoft. “It also ensures that existing and new gamers alike can get the most from their Xbox 360 by owning a great library of blockbuster hits. So if you missed playing a game the first time around, now there is a great reason to pick it up.”
The Xbox 360 Platinum Hits program, which launched worldwide last fall, gives people access to great games at a great value. TOKYO -- Microsoft plans to launch a cheaper version of its Xbox 360 games console in Japan a week before the PlayStation 3 is due on sale.
The Xbox 360 core system, which is already on sale in other markets, will go on sale in Japan on November 2, the company said Friday. The console doesn't include several components that are present in the full system, such as a hard-disk drive and a headset, and as a result it will be cheaper. It will cost $256, about half the price of the PlayStation 3.
Initial versions of the core system will also have two popular games bundled with it: PGR 3-Project Gotham Racing 3 and Ninety-Nine Nights (N3). These games and three other titles will also be re-released on the same day under the banner "Xbox 360 Platinum Collection" for about $24--a competitive price compared with games for the rival PlayStation.
The Microsoft counter-attack begins here folks. According to Jeux-France, MS has decided to release the core Xbox360 pack in Japan for the coming holiday season. Not only will the price be a measly 29.800 Yen (~250USD or ~200EUR), but it will also include Project Gotham 3 and Ninety Nine Nights.
As part of Gamasutra's visit to Shanghai for this week's ChinaJoy game exhibition, we've discovered that Xbox 360 game piracy appears to be spreading notably in the country, with at least one vendor offering Xbox 360 titles such as Hitman: Blood Money for around 30 Chinese yuan ($3.50).
This development has occurred after an incident in March 2006, in which hackers managed to flash changes to the BIOS on the Xbox 360's Optical Disc Drive which allowed non-authenticated (copied) games to be played. Further information on the hack surfaced in late May, when other parties appear to have released a public version of the exploit, and Microsoft's Gamerscore Blog published an official response to the problem.
No longer must we dream of Fuzzy, uncertain box art for upcoming games.
After much work by PR guru's the final pack shots of Crackdown, Viva Piñata, and the US version of Ninety-Nine Nights have been release? Check them out!

Turns out that the "Hard Drive required" sign on Xbox.com turned out to be nothing more than a mistake on Microsoft's behalf. They did not mean to put up that it required a hard drive on the website and has now been taken down.
The game will be playable for those of you who do not own a hard drive. There was speculation if it would be required or not. Looking to the Japanese version of the game which was released in Japan awhile ago did no good since there are no Core packages for Japanese consumers.
