The Xbox 360 has enjoyed its best ever US sales month in December, according to the latest NPD sales data released. PS3's total sales for November-December are just 1.74 million compared to Xbox 360's 3.27 million.
Although the DS was the highest selling system of the month, the 360 recorded its best ever figures, shifting 1.9 million units, and was the only console to see a year-on-year sales increase. Impressive figures, considering it ran out of stock before the end of the month.

As I'm sure you are aware, Ubisoft's Assassins Creed: Brotherhood is the third title in the series, it is also the third time that the franchise will be directly butting heads with Activision's Call of Duty franchise.
A Ubisoft PR representative had this to say: "Every major Assassin’s Creed title has been released in November, and the series has obvious done incredibly well in that position. Given that track record we see no reason to move the launch date of the third entry in the series regardless of any competition."
It is clear that Ubisoft is not following the trend of other titles and moving out of the way of the holiday Juggernaut. However, will people be playing Assassins Creeds multiplayer for very long given the king of multiplayer is coming out at the same time. Only time will tell when it is released.

AUS: 18th of November
