As far as Backwards Compatibility (BC ) is concerned, Microsoft clearly relies on Nintendo and Sony's competition in this generation of consoles, similar to the use of the Tropicana casino promotional code. So you can buy every backward compatible title digitally on the Xbox One, but you do not have to, if you still own the original DVD.

In mid-2015, Microsoft launched the offensive to make the games of the Xbox 360 on the Xbox One running. At the end of 2017, the Redmond company went one step further: back to their first home console, the original Xbox. For the E3 2019 in June, the first final update was released, which once again made a whole handful of Xbox and Xbox 360 games compatible with the Xbox One. A total of 577 titles of the two previous console generations are now playable on the One. Now the team, which has dealt with the backward compatibility of the Xbox One, should deal with the next Microsoft console, Project Scarlett.

If you own the Xbox or 360 game as a physical disk or digitally purchased it on the Xbox 360, you can also use it on the Xbox One. For the physical versions you simply insert the DVD, whereupon the Xbox One should offer you the adapted version of the game as a download. The DVD serves only as proof that the game is really in your possession. You will not be asked to pay a second time.

The Xbox One features, such as creating screenshots via Kinect or streaming games on Windows 10 should also work with the old titles. The list is of Xbox One compatible titles has been extended to June 2019 monthly. Again and again, a new wave of backward compatible games has been added. In addition, since November 12, 2016, the Xbox 360 games you get through "Games with Gold" are always playable on the Xbox One as well.
