Capcom Receives More 2006 Japan Game Awards Than Any Other Third Party Publisher

The Japan Game Awards were created by the Computer Entertainment Software Association (CESA) to recognize outstanding titles in computer entertainment software. The 2006 awards were presented on September 22-24. With a total of five honors overall, Capcom® has received more awards than any other third party publisher.

The Game of the Year Division acknowledged titles commercially released in Japan between April 1, 2005 and March 31, 2006. Capcom is pleased to announce that Monster Hunter 2 (Dos) for the PlayStationâ2 computer entertainment system received the esteemed Award for Excellence and Monster Hunter Freedom for the PSP™ (PlayStation®Portable) system received the Special Award.

The awards in the illustrious Future Division, for games which have not yet shipped, were determined by votes from attendees of Tokyo Game Show 2006. Capcom received three of the eleven awards, the most among any third party publisher, for the following titles: Lost Planet™: Extreme Condition for Xbox 360™ video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, Monster Hunter Portable 2nd for the PSP system and Gyakuten Saiban 4 for Nintendo DS™.

Lost Planet for Xbox 360 is a riveting sci-fi action shooter with intense cinematic gameplay set within the ruthless conditions of a war-torn ice covered planet. This all new, next-generation title was also awarded “Best Xbox 360 Game” at the Leipzig Games Convention this past August by a panel of top journalists.

The Monster Hunter franchise features a player in the role of a fearless hunter tracking down and battling huge monsters in beautifully detailed environments. As a result of the original PS2 title’s strong reception, it made its move to the PlayStation Portable (PSP) under the name Monster Hunter Freedom in December. As of March 2006, the combined sales of the smash-hit PSP and PlayStation 2 titles have exceeded 2,000,000 units worldwide.

Gyakuten Saiban 4, which marks the first game in the series to be completely designed for the Nintendo DS, is the latest chapter of the exciting courtroom drama. Players assume the role of a rookie defense attorney who must absolve his clients of trumped-up charges in a court of law.

As a leading worldwide developer in the gaming industry, Capcom strives to expand on existing popular franchises as well as create exciting original titles for fans to enjoy.
