Amazon.com to offer a Xbox 360 for $100

Amazon.com to offer a Xbox 360 for $100
Published by: dangermouse on Thursday, November 16, 2006
Tagged: Gaming, Xbox 360, Xbox Live,

In gear for the holiday season, Amazon.com is initiating an "Amazon Customers Vote". Four products are being offered at "Ridiculous Prices". The products are voted on by consumers and the most popular will be sold at the price stated.

This week an Xbox 360 core system is one of the products listed with a sell price of $100. It has, by far, the most votes. There will only be 1000 units sold at this price and will not be shipped outside the U.S. The voting will end next Tuesday the 21st. The winner (most likely the 360) will be announced on Wednesday. Then on Thursday the 23rd at 11:00 am PST consumers will be able to buy the winning product.

So you have till Thanksgiving to set up highspeed internet and buy an atomic clock. Because at 1000 units, I'm sure they won't make it passed 12:01 pm PST before all units are sold.

NEW!! Halo 2 Maps, Halo 3 Screenshots, Commercial and Public BETA!

"Happy Halo Day!

Today marks the five-year anniversary of Halo and to commemorate this occasion, Microsoft just revealed a few tantalizing announcements for fans of the franchise. You may have already read the details online elsewhere but we thought it’d be best to recap these events ourselves and perhaps shed some additional light on what’s ahead.

For starters I’d just like to point out that all of you out there in our beloved community are now officially coined “Halo Nation.” How do you like your new moniker? I suppose “Underground Army recruits to further Bungie’s goals of World Domination” just didn’t have the same ring to it. But between us, we know that’s what’s really going on. For now we’ll all agree to go along with this ruse."

Nyko Addresses Xbox 360 Intercooler Problems

Nyko Addresses Xbox 360 Intercooler Problems
Published by: dangermouse on Tuesday, November 14, 2006
Tagged: Gaming, Xbox 360, Xbox Live,

Addressing recent reports that its cooling device Intercooler 360 is defective, Nyko today pledged to replace any Xbox 360s that have been damaged by the accessory.

Nyko's Intercooler is causing problems for a few Xbox 360s

In a press release issued today, Nyko said it would stand by its Xbox 360 Intercooler accessory "100 percent." While pledging to take the claims seriously, Nyko also describes recent reports of defective Intercooler units breaking Xbox 360s as an "isolated incident."

Because the fan peripheral saps its power directly from the Xbox 360, there have been concerns that the Intercooler 360 could cause damage to the console. Recent posts on some gadget blogs have shown Intercoolers discoloring and, in some cases, breaking Xbox 360s. Outside of images and testimonials, however, it's not known how many units could be affected.

Activision's CoD3 and THP8 not hitting 720p

Activision's CoD3 and THP8 not hitting 720p
Published by: forahobby on Tuesday, November 14, 2006
Tagged: Gaming, Xbox 360, Xbox Live,

Someone call Activision and let 'em know that 720p means 1280x720, please.

Games-Aktuell, a German gaming outlet, has discovered that Call of Duty 3 and Tony Hawk's Project 8 are not running at a 720p high-def resolution.

When the tests were run, CoD3 was shown to be running at 1040x620 pixels and THP8 at 1040x584 pixels. The pixel drop reflects a resolution drop of 30% and 34%, respectively. The resolution drop could be assumed to help keep framerates up, but THP8 reportedly has framerate problems. So what's up?

Activision Germany told Cynamite.de that they weren't aware of the problem and are looking into it. Lower resolution is not something that normally just happens by accident, but given the recent quality assurance problems with CoD3, these resolution problems may just be another woeful mistake. If intentional, why the resolution drop in THP8 when the 360 is clearly powerful enough to handle something like Gears of War just fine?
