It would seem since the Lost Planet update yesterday a great number of people are experiencing disconnection issues.
Basically when your join a server your will get booted with the message 'the match host has cancelled the mission, returning to lobby'! Well it appears Capcom are working hard to fix these issues and have come up with a few things for you to try.
Capcom GM Zeus from Capcom has these wise words:
The first thing to check is your Xbox 360 net connections and make sure that NAT is set to open.
The second thing to try is the maintenance commands, follow these instructions:
- Go to 360 Dashboard
- Select System
- Select Memory
- Highlight the Hard Drive (or Memory Unit) (do not press A)
- Press the Y button to access Device Options
- Press: X, X, Left Bumper, Right Bumper, X, X
After you do this shut down your console, start it backup and then the game and re-download the patch. This fixed a lot of people issues.
At present Capcom R&D suspect that a lot of the issues are people that have not yet shutdown their consoles and are running the old patch which will conflict with the version you are trying to run. As a result of this they are monitoring the situation to see if things improve over the next few days.
So if you are experiencing problems even after trying the above please do pop along to the Capcom forums and post your issues at the below link and post the following details:
Your location:
Your level:
Version of game (Collector's Edition / Normal):
Router:
Connection Type (DSL/Cable/Dial Up):
ISP:
Xbox Connection (wireless/ethernet cable):
Signal strength (this is the ! symbol next to the GamerTags - Dark grey = Bad / White = Good):
More details will be posted on these issues as they come to light.
Yes its rumour hill time. Much to the delight of many the infamous Black Xbox 360 rumour has fired up again.
It would seem an employee of Canadian branch of the Best Buy has confirmed the release of the Xbox 360 Zephyr as its so cutely named and is due to hit the shelf’s in May of this year.
Unfortunately for people that were hoping that this will also include the much awaited HDMI connection & 120GB HD upgrade, it would seem not. If this is so it really is not much to get excited about. I've already got a modified 360 that is black and lit up like a Christmas tree so it will not make me rush out and purchase one.
So unless this 360 comes out with at least some upgrades I think it will be a bit of a null point except for new buyers and will probably aid sales. But little else.

But having said this, on the tail end of this rumour we also have to new Black HD-DVD player. :o The above image apparently shows an exclusive model given to Microsoft engineer Andy Pennell as a 'ship-It' award.
And as the rumour goes this is not due for release any time at present. But it does add to the weight of a black 360 coming out in the near future and the above image does look pretty genuine.
As you may recall, we were working on an update for Lost Planet that was estimated to be available around March 9. Great news! It is now available, ahead of schedule. This latest update adds on enhancements to the multiplayer game as well as a few fixes that address minor bugs/exploits that were discovered post-release.
Updates:
* In the pre-game lobby, a country flag icon will be shown next to the Gamertag of each player. This will be especially helpful for determining location of the match host.
* In the pre-game lobby, an icon will be added next to each player’s Gamertag, indicating connection strength.
* In Team Elimination, Post Grab and Fugitive modes, an indicator will be added next to the Gamertag of the person who is speaking.
* At the post-match Results screen, an indicator will be added next to the Gamertag of the person who is speaking.
* At the post-match Results screen, Gamertags of the players who have left the session will be grayed out.
* Points awarded to Fugitive for killing a Hunter reduced 75% (only 25% of original point total awarded)
Additionally, the update will prevent players from playing together when network conditions are too bad and likely to cause extreme lag. This will prevent the following kinds of issues from occuring:
* Multiple fugitives in Fugitive matches when there should be only one
* Invisible players during matches
* Player info shown on Results screen for players who did not play in the match
Bug Fixes:
* Sometimes in Fugitive mode there would be multiple Fugitives instead of just one -- Fixed
* Occasionally, if an error occurred on the lobby screen, another lobby screen would be displayed on top of it -- Fixed
* Sometimes when there was a long delay/lag, the game would hang at the transition screen going from the lobby to the game and then reboot -- Fixed
* Sometimes when there was a long delay/lag, depending on the console, certain players in the match would become invisible for the duration of the match -- Fixed
* Sometimes post-match Results screens would show players who did not participate in the match -- Fixed
* Starting a taunt animation during a reload shortened the reload time as an exploit -- Fixed
Please note that network slowdown and lag is affected by each individual’s internet connection and setup.
With regards to the big news this week about the hypervisor vulnerability, it was only a matter of time before someone decided to create a Proof-Of-Concept exploit which exploited the vulnerability. And that's exactly what seems to have happened - a relative unknown, crawler360, has released what would be the first homebrew program on the 360. At this point, the code's pretty basic, printing out "Hello World" and opening up the Serial interface so that you can communicate with the 360 through your PC.
This exploit code hides itself inside the shader files in the game King Kong. It was probably a mistake by the creators and Microsoft to leave out a hole which allowed you to edit the shader files and not worry about breaking the signature. This exploit basically crashes the 360, then takes control of the hypervisor to make it jump to a piece of code which isn't signed.
What this means is that today, the unsigned piece of code is a simple "Hello World" app; next week, that piece of code could be a kernel and memory dumper which would dump contents of the RAM through the serial port. Once the hackers have a good look at the innards of the processes, it becomes much more easier to pin-point vulnerabilities.
While I won't go around speculating about the future, it does hold a lot of importance since it's probably the only place where hackers are sure to get quick results. The released proof-of-concept is only for experienced users who know their way around a 360. You'll need to compile the code since it's open source, then you'll have to get a serial connection going between the 360 and your PC - quite a difficult task.
You'll still need one of the older kernels to run the POC since the latest kernel (4552) has this vulnerability patched. With no way to downgrade yet, it's up to the few lucky people with older kernels to try and make the most of this. Apart from that, you'll have to have a hacked DVD drive so that you can run a modified version of the King Kong game with the hacked shaders.
