If you’ve been following 7th Columnist’s rummage through the depths of the Halo 3 beta code, then you’ve no doubt been subjected to a treat or two of top secret information as you’ve run your eyes over these very pages.
We’ve heard about new weapons (the Gravity Hammer, Excavator), new vehicles (Hornet), mutliplayer names, gametypes and more. This time though, we bring you the big news. Real big.
By now you should be aware of how we are doing this too, and exactly what it is we’re looking at. Basically, by extracting the source data from the files that make up the currently public Halo 3 beta, we have gained access to all the menu text, on screen prompts and a heap of other stuff of that ilk.
Do you have a favorite game that you just can't wait to see on Xbox LIVE Arcade? Is there some feature that you wish more Xbox LIVE Arcade games offered? (i.e. a specific game-play mode?) Are there non-game features that you'd like XBLA (the destination) to implement? Lastly, are there events or promotions that you wish were a regular occurrence on XBLA? We want to hear your ideas! Please share your thoughts in the comments of this entry.
Don't limit yourself to past console games, current game-play features, or events/promotions you've seen elsewhere. Think of games that fit the "pick-up-and-play" promise of XBLA. Think of non-game features that make XBLA a more enjoyable place to download and play those games, in general.
Do you remember back in January when PlayStation decided to show off the amazing next-gen graphics of Gran Turismo HD with a screenshot of, er, Xbox 360's Project Gotham 3? Well, looks like they're still trying to convince themselves that PGR really is a PS3 game...
Car manufacturer Kia is currently running a promotion with PlayStation in Spain that compares the thrill of driving one of their real-life motors with the thrill of driving a Ferrari Enzo on your PS3. Except no PS3 game has a Ferrari Enzo in it.
Ah well, at least you can't clearly tell that this screenshot has clearly come from PGR3. Oh wait. Look at the number plate...
You can check the Kia/PlayStation website out for yourself here, but since it'll no doubt be pulled very soon I've captured the moment for posterity.
Games Radar put up a good 9 questions regarding the Halo 3 beta.
A list of the 9 questions
1. Why don't the graphics look more next-gen?
2. Why does someone keep stealing our kills?
3. Why do we always end up in a 'Shotty Snipers' match?
4. Why doesn't it register hits when it should?
5. Why do only two players understand the rules of the game?
6. Why does every bubble shield contain a dead player?
7. Why are melee attacks so much stronger than guns?
8. Why don't we leave marks in the snow when we fall?
9. Why did they bother with the single falling leaf?
Well its confirmed, if you have a modded 360 your chances of getting banned on live are very good.
Major Nelson dropped this: As you can imagine, we have a zero-tolerance policy when it comes to modded consoles connecting to LIVE. We're very serious about this, and if we detect you have a modded Xbox then you will not be able to connect to Xbox Live. If you see this screen and get Status Code: Z: 8015 - 190D…that means your console has been banned.
We'll continue to enforce this rule to ensure the integrity of the service and protect our partners and users.
There have been quite a few people banned so far, most forums have post's of multiple people getting booted from Live. The only good part of this, if you can call it good, is its just your console that is banned not your live account. So if you must play Live and got banned you can pick up a new console and be good to go.
More confirmation to this:
One of the great things about LIVE and the unified community is that we work hard to create a level playing field for all gamers and have a no tolerance policy towards inappropriate behavior like hacking or cheating. As part of our commitment to our members, we do not allow people that we have detected to have modified their console to connect to LIVE.
This is an important part of our efforts to try and maintain a fair gaming environment for the large majority of gamers that play by the rules. This topic is more important than ever given the recent release of the Halo 3 beta. As a result, some consumers that try to login to LIVE who we detect have illegally modified their console will get an error code (Status Code: Z: 8015 - 190D) when trying to connect to the service.
These users will not have their account automatically banned from LIVE, but they will no longer be able to access the service from the console they modified.
We have stated in the past that customers can only enjoy access to the Xbox LIVE community through the use of a genuine, unmodified, Xbox console and we will continue to enforce this rule to ensure the integrity of our service, the protection of our partners and the benefits of our users.
Just want to clear up a few things surrounding several erroneous stories regarding alleged comments from Peter Moore about Xbox 360 supporting Blu-ray. Simply put...These reports are completely incorrect.
Some online media outlets have picked up this story and are citing Internet speculation of an alleged Associated Press story that does not exist, along with comments taken out of context from a story in ITmedia that appeared back in January. This information is being reported as news and as a result of a recent interview, neither of which are true.
In an interview with ITmedia back at CES in January of this year, Peter said Xbox 360 has the flexibility to adapt to consumers’ needs, allowing Microsoft to add features as consumers demand them - as evidenced by the offering of the HD DVD Player as an accessory.
