Megadeth, Gears of War Partnership Confirms Release Date?Published by patto on Monday, July 24, 2006
The release date of Gears of War, the first game developed by Epic Games exclusively for Microsoft Game Studios and the Xbox 360, has been a hot topic after E3 2006. First, we found out that the official Xbox web site has it listed as an October 2, 2006 release, confirming the same release date online retailers had for the game. Then, Xbox.com changed the release date to a "TBD" (to be determined) status.
But today, a partnership between Microsoft Game Studios and thrash metal band Megadeth indirectly reconfirms an October release date. A press release states:
Look for the tour--the brainchild of MEGADETH frontman DAVE MUSTAINE --to launch in the Northeast and to work its way through 25 major markets before wrapping in mid-October, with Xbox's "Gears of War" sponsoring the trek.
As if that sentence wasn't enough proof that the game could be launching in October, another paragraph of the press release quotes Craig Davison, Director of Global Games Marketing for Xbox, talking about the partnership:
"We're totally jazzed about the partnership between Gigantour 2006 and our forthcoming Xbox 360 blockbuster, Gears of War ! Partnering a music extravaganza like GIGANTOUR with the launch of a mega-hit game like Gears of War captures the excitement around two awesome happenings for fans of music and video games!"
This latest quote also confirms that the game could be launching around mid-October since that's when the GIGANTOUR ends; so probably the October 2, 2006 release that has been floating around is actually accurate.
Stay tuned, we'll have more on Gears of War's release date as it develops.
