We can always count on relevant, genuinely funny video game coverage on The Daily Show with John Stewart.
They didn't let us down last night as correspondent Aasif Mandvi took a virtual trip to Liberty City to mark the release of Grand Theft Auto IV.
Though they do repeatedly mention the violence that the series is (justly, we guess) known for, they manage to put it all in perspective at 3:43 in the piece on Antonin Scalia that we've lovingly embedded after the break.
Ryan Treit from xbox.com reports on many of the outstanding new features of Grand Theft Auto IV after a dedicated day of hands-on time with Rockstar's latest masterpiece.
So much regarding Rockstar's already celebrated and critically acclaimed Grand Theft Auto IV™ is common knowledge—the vast, open-ended sandbox style of play, the vibrantly alive metropolis of Liberty City (a re-imagining of New York), its gritty style and trademark humor, to name a few—that to restate the obvious is unnecessary.
Niko and Roman together again.
After several dedicated hours of play though, it remains remarkable just how vastly improved GTA IV is over its already brilliant predecessors. New feature after feature tumbles forth during the game's first couple of hours as Rockstar weaves new mechanics and options into an intimately familiar play-style, adding substance and infusing the game with a sense of freshness.
Let's take a look at some of the exciting new features and additions.
Niko's Drama
While Grand Theft Auto IV retains every bit of the series' much-loved sense of humor, it's worth noting that the core storyline offers just as much drama as it does wit. Niko Bellic's arc through Liberty City is both subtle and emotional as the game's excellent and believable digital acting adds weight to Niko's inevitable and often tragic descent into Liberty City's underworld.
The addition of a cover system may seem a simple change, sure, but it's a revolutionary one as firefights turn a great deal more towards the tactical side rather than classic running and gunning.
The fact that Guitar Hero will be getting an all Aerosmith edition is in no way new news to any of us I'm sure but you might be interested to know what this means for the bands tracks and other games like Rock Band.
Newsweek.com has the full details on it and by there info it looks like Guitar Hero has locked in all the Aerosmith tracks that have not already been released to Rock Band, so if your an Aerosmith fan with Rock Band only you might want to start saving up now.
Newsweek reports: "we persevered, and with an assist from NEWSWEEK business reporter Ashley Harris, we've learned that Aerosmith is indeed exclusive to Guitar Hero for an unspecified period of time. "It's an exclusive deal for this game," Aerosmith publicist Marcee Rondon told Harris. We confirmed this with Tim Riley, Activision's vice president of music affairs, who told us through Activision PR that "I can say that we do have the band exclusively, and their catalog should be exclusive to us beyond the one or two tracks they had licensed out to Rock Band before we made our deal." (According to MTV's Rhythm Game Track Finder, it's one song: "Train Kept a Rollin'.")
Sorry Rock Band but it would seem that Guitar Hero has secured a monster this time and with Aerosmiths fan base I'm sure it will be reflected in sales when this title hits.
The first real game play footage has hit the net for Madden o9 and i must say if this clip is a testament to the rest of the game i will just edit my players for Madden 08 on the Xbox 1 and skip it this year.
With the madden name getting so big that it has no real competition it would seem they have stopped bothering to make any real innovative moves and with no real NFL games to go against it they wont need to.
Since my opinion is not the sites opinion have a look at this footage and see if you can spot the things that separate 08 from 09.
I might be wrong here but is it really to much to ask that the Madden franchise (the franchise with all the money and big names) put out a game that really changes it up and makes the fans stop in there tracks and say "damn thats nice" in the same way Call Of Duty 4 made you forget what Call Of Duty 3 even looked like?
With all this out there I'm sure the true Madden fans will keep on buying the game and be happy with a new way to train your team or a new way to be the team coach but the same way salt will make a slight change to your mashed potatoes Madden is the same game it has been for some time now and my mashed potatoes are still just mashed potatoes, just saltier.
I know that I'm coming down harsh on this one but i feel that by now it should be so much more and if you feel that I'm wrong pleas post in the forum and let me know why, or just call me names.
