One of the season’s most anticipated games is "Halo Wars," a real-time strategy prequel to the popular "Halo" series.
Dave Pottinger, lead designer for "Halo Wars," describes what’s up with the game, which is being developed by Ensemble Studios for Microsoft’s Xbox 360 console. The game is due to be released on March 3.
“Halo Wars” is a strategy game based on the legendary “Halo®” universe. In campaign mode, players will command the armies of the UNSC warship “Spirit of Fire,” consisting of familiar and new UNSC units in its initial encounters against the Covenant, an alien coalition threatening to obliterate mankind. “Halo Wars” will immerse gamers in an early period of the storied “Halo” universe, allowing them to experience events leading up to the first “Halo” title for Xbox®.
The switch from first-person shooter to strategy is only one of the changes in the series, which until now has focused on Master Chief, the lone remaining Spartan in the interstellar war against the alien Covenant.
With the guidance of Serina, a spirited artificial intelligence (AI) persona, gamers will direct legions of UNSC soldiers, Warthogs, Scorpions and more, each group having its own strengths and uses in battle. Adventurous commanders can also call upon ancient Forerunner technology, if they are fortunate enough to find it hidden throughout the battlefield.
Covenant forces are also waiting for players to lead them into battle in multiplayer skirmishes via the New Xbox Experience. Call upon an arsenal of new and familiar Covenant units such as Grunts, Elites, Ghosts and even Scarabs to defeat foes on the battlefield. Strategic-minded players who react well under pressure will emerge victorious.
Created from the ground up for the Xbox 360 console and controller, “Halo Wars” is being developed by the veteran real-time strategy developer Ensemble Studios, the team responsible for the best-selling and critically acclaimed “Age of Empires®” franchise on the PC. “Halo Wars” can be played online through the New Xbox Experience® and the single-player campaign. Published by Microsoft Game Studios, “Halo Wars” is an exclusive title for the Xbox 360 video game system.

Here is one hell of a good idea since the game market seems to forget the good ol cowboy days, the first Red Dead was a grand slam for me on the first xbox so i see no way they could put this game out and not sell it faster then fake Louis Vuitton hand bags.
Kotaku reports: The sequel to 2004's Red Dead Revolver, Rockstar's take on spaghetti westerns, is coming to the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 this fall, Rockstar Games announced this morning.
Red Dead Redemption is the story of former outlaw John Marston and will take place at the turn of the 20th century when the "lawless and chaotic badlands began to give way to the expanding reach of government and the spread of the Industrial Age."
"Along the way, players will experience the heat of gunfights and battles, meet a host of unique characters, struggle against the harshness of one of the world’s last remaining wildernesses, and ultimately pick their own precarious path through an epic story about the death of the Wild West and the gunslingers that inhabited it."
“The team at San Diego have massively exceeded our expectations with the sheer depth of experiences in Red Dead Redemption,” said Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar Games. “The seamless combination of breathtaking beauty and intense action, all woven together with strong plotlines in a massive vibrant, rural environment is mind-blowing. We think this game helps to push the limits of what an open-world gaming experience can be.”
The game will use Rockstar's proprietary RAGE game engine, which was used in Table Tennis, Grand Theft Auto IV and Midnight Club: Los Angles.
The game will feature an open-world environment which will include frontier towns, wildlife-packed prairies and mountain passes.
I loved Red Dead Revolver, despite the average reviews and 1.5 million copies sold, and it's great to see that the sequel is finally moving forward. Now about that Gun sequel.
If your a die hard R-Type fan you might want to look this one over since it seems to be packed with grate features and crisp clean graffix, the real question here would be is this game packed with 1200 MS point worth of features and i dont know why but i just do see how it could be.
Xbox market place describes the game as so: The coin-op classics, R-Type and R-Type II, are together at last in R-Type Dimensions! Fight through all 14 Bydo-infested stages in original 2-D or all-new 3-D graphics, and swap back and forth on-the-fly. The classic gameplay remains untouched, and a new Infinite game mode allows continuous progression from game start to the final boss. The Bydo will not evade you this time! Game modes can be played as single player or multiplayer missions, either locally or over Xbox LIVE®. Pull yourself together, save the Earth, and strike down the evil Bydo Empire!
Classic arcade action: R-Type Dimensions includes R-Type and R-Type II, two fully playable classic coin-op games.
Multiple game modes: Try the Classic game mode with play that exactly mimics the original coin-op experiences, or the all-new Infinite game mode, assuring the completion of your game regardless of skill level. Either mode offers both single player and all-new co-op play (both local and over Xbox LIVE). Switch on-the-fly between 2-D and 3-D graphic modes even during play.
Crazy camera: Play from a non-orthogonal camera view, adding a whole new perspective.
Cooperative play: New cooperative play uses a simple yet thrilling revive system, and a ship collision feature that can be turned on for added difficulty and sparring.
New features: The new stage unlock functionality allows you to have immediate access to your favorite stages, and the new Continue option lets you restart from the last accessed checkpoint when the game's over.
Tuesday 3rd Feb, 2009: 2:00am PST: A new mandatory dashboard update will be available when you next connect to the Xbox Live Service on Tuesday. The update (patch) is to address the issues that a few people have been having with the HDMI audio & video. The update will be rolled out to all Xbox 360 Users Worldwide.
It seems alot of HDMI-connected gamers lost all audio after the last dashboard update, and a Major Nelson has reported the fix is finally on the way in the next update. According to Major Nelson, it's due to arrive February 3 at 2:00 a.m. PST in a mandatory dashboard update that should address th...
Let's hope this sorts those issues so M$ can get back to developing another new feature for us all instead of patching.. :) Eitherway, enjoy the best console on the market!
