| Streetfighter 4 Advanced Techniques Part 1 Published by bomernee | Page views: 1776
| | There are 2 main techniques id like to talk about which many people wont tell you about in order for you to learn how to chain together more advanced combos, pull of moves quicker in combos and cause massive amounts of near unblockable damage (with the right set up). These have become a major part of my gameplay and im using it more and more trying to make it natural for me to use in the heat of combat!!!!
Negative Edge
I havent fully come to terms with this technique as im stuck with a 360 pad and dont have a stick :( Negative edge is used to pull moves of quicker. Basically you can activate a move on the DEpress of punch or kick. For example: Im ken and i land a medium kick then i roll D,DB,B and release the kick and it combos into a hurricane kick. I will update this as i learn more of the applications but this works with nearly every move dragonpunches fireballs etc.
F.A.D.C (focus attack dash cancel)
1st: Focus Attack
Im just getting to grips with this but it must be one of the most devastating techniques ive see since the parrying and cancelling system of 3rd strike, which may still yet show sf4 has major depth. To start with you need to understand focus attacks and how to cancel them.I will relate this mainly to fireball throwing and ken/ryu orientated characters but you can adapt this to work for any character in the game! If you hold the two medium buttons (Mk+Mp) you start a focus attack. The if you double tap either BB, or FF you will cancel the focus attack and dash forward or back. This has several applications. Firstly you can use it to trick your opponent to think your vunerable and cancel then counter attack, you can use it to absorb a fireball, then dash forward to start an offensive move, or dash back to become more defensive. As a starting point to chain together devastating combos, think of this. Your close to your opponent and ur pretty sure they are going throw a heavy crouch kick. You start your focus, get hit by the kick absorb it cancel it by dashing forward, then throw a dragon punch counter, or you absorb the attack let your focus build with an unblockable attack let of the unblockable attack then cancel with a dash forward and throw another move. Or you can absorb the attack dash backwards and launch a fireball quickly.
2nd: Dash Cancel
Right so weve seen the focus attack, and we know how to cancel it, thats great. But it doesnt do much by itself. So far we are still in an intermediate level. Now the next bit is a little confusing and is a bit complicated but if i can learn this so can you! This is the secret no one wants you to know!!!!
Super combo bar:
This is the most important part of this technique....it takes practice, and it takes learning or creating your own combos. Im assuming you've at least mastered Ex moves and how to pull of SuperCombos and ultracombos. Im also assuming its frustrating you comboing into ultras as everyone always seems to be able to block them. Now this sounds crazy but you can cancel nearly any move if you have 2 bars use of your super combo bar. So what does this do for me? i hear you cry! well u cancel your move with a focus attack (Mp+Mk) and it uses two bars of your Sc Bar then you cancel the focus attack and pull of your next move. Let me demonstrate this with a combo. Go to practice mode, turn sc to infite and ultracombo to infitie. Be ken and have whoever as your opponent. Here is the combo:
Get close: (Mp+Mk) Focus attack charge to maximum and hit, Cancel with Dash forward, pull of a firece dragon punch, when the dragon punch first connects QUICKLY hit Mp+Mk to cancel the dragon punch, dash forward and use your ultra combo. You should have two bars of sc left, so in theory you could dragon punch again cancel that then dash then pull your ultra.
So lets look closely at this. The focus attack connects. is unblockable, and stuns opponent, you cancel move forward dragon punch which is unblockable, you cancel and as your enemy is in flames you pull of your ultra combo for a devastating finish.
I have also been juggling between focus attack, and FADC, see if you focus attack and land it then cancel it throw a dragon punch FADC it, then focus attack then cancel then finish with a dragon punch you do a lot of damage.
Summary
The only way to become a master at this is practice practice practice. Be aware it will only work if u have 2 bars of super combo, use training mode with Supercombo set to infinite and ultra to infinite to figure out the most devastatin chains you can do! Experiment with different orders, and using it with different moves, keep mixing up your game and dont give away too much to your enemy and save these techs to surprise them when they least expect it, a good combo can take an enemy all the way down to about 10-20% health in ONE go, which at the beggining of a round can be devastatin (super combo carries over at the end of the round, so sometimes its more useful to let it stack and carry over to the 2nd round!), you can cancel supercombos but im not sure how this works have to add more later as i figure it out!
