Mafia II created by 2k Games, powered by Nvidia is a third person shooter taking place in the 40s-50s in a town called Empire bay.
Overview
Powered by a Physx and Illusion Engine this game really pops and stands out, unlike other Mafia or Godfather related games I really enjoyed the open world of this game, the only downside that I did dislike was the constant driving. Although most open world games involve driving I really don't see why another character could not drive you to the destination.
There are a few features in the game that can remind you of the Grand theft auto series, smashing windows is one of them the two games are completely different. I was a bit disappointed that you could not pull off things such as drive by. Personally I thought the voice acting was phenomenal. I often compare it to L.A. Noir although I did not play the game that much the two are almost comparable. I often view LA Noir as the cop version, and Mafia 2 as the crook version.
Gameplay - 6/10
As I said before in the overview I really feel as if they could of done a better job at the gameplay. The driving was too repetitive. I did like the idea of the speedometer, this helped me crash less. Another thing that was a personal annoyance was the wanted levels. I mean having to change your clothes and or car after completing a mission it can be a real pain having to get from point A to point B and worry about having to do a cop chase right after you complete a mission.
But of course Trial and error are what makes games fun, for the most part the game play was alright, I really enjoyed the fighting, the guns, and the weapons. The Sound effects were realistic as well.
Graphics - 8/10
Keep in mind this game is only two years old, and I thought the graphics were outstanding, there were a few glitches but those come throughout with every game. The most famous glitch for example having your body show halfway through a closed door or being stuck in a area.
I do not have that many bad things to say about the graphics, this was powered by Nvidia after all.
Sound - 9/10
As said I thought the voice acting was phenomenal even though I could say that some parts were a bit cheesy but that's just a personal opinion. The voice acting was very believable and matched each characters voice pretty well.
I really enjoyed the sound effects of weapons also, I loved shooting the Tommy gun. As well as the fighting.
Overall - 8/10
Of course I am looking forward to Mafia 3 and hope anyone that owns a good gaming rig will hopefully check this game out. I have been meaning to try the DLC for it I have heard people really enjoyed that. I would recommend this game to anyone who likes gangster style video games.
