"Guitar Hero: Aerosmith" is the fourth installment to the "Guitar Hero" series and is basically "Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock" with an Aerosmith skin and trackpack. If you are a fan of Aerosmith, you will love this game. If not, then you might want to consider spending your money elsewhere.
Overview
With two different versions of the game available, most people that own a previous "Guitar Hero" game are opting out for just the game itself. While other fans of Aerosmith are grabbing up the bundle with the Gibson Les Paul guitar, the game, and some stickers. You also get a pretty cool Aerosmith themed faceplate for the guitar. All guitars controllers are compatible with this go so the bundle is not needed. The main thing you will notice about "GH: Aerosmith" is the difficulty of the game is dropped a notch or two. If you have ever played any other "GH" games, you know that some of the songs can be quiet challenging. For the "GH" veterans out there, this game should be a rental game, as you can beat it on the expert difficulty in a short period of time with only 41 tracks (fewer than previous games).
Gameplay - 8/10
Only an 8/10 because the gameplay is exactly the same as previous ones. You still have the rock meter, star power, and a note streak counter. Not all the tracks on the game are Areosmith. Thirty percent of them are other bands and stuff that Joe Perry done on the side. One of the cool things about the game are the cut scenes in the middle of the career gameplay. They are actual documentary footage of the band which is really neat. In career mode, the 6 different venues you play in are special venues. Each one means something different to the band. Each time you unlock a new one, you will see one of the nifty cutscene videos I was talking about. All the multiplayer options from previous games are exactly the same as well, so you still get the great online battles.
Graphics - 5/10
The graphics in this game are almost exactly the same, if not worse. At times some of the characters almost look like cartoons. Steven Tyler was actually motion captured for this game so he looks cool during gameplay. The layout of the HUD is still the same. Basically, "GH III" with Aerosmith skin and tracks.
Sound - 9/10
The songs on this game sound great. Now I'm not a huge Aerosmith fan, but they done a great job with the tracks on this game. I say that because they actually had to rerecord some of the songs specifically for the game. You can't even tell which ones they were either because they sound exactly like the original version of the song, if not better.
Overall - 7/10
Like I said before, if you like Aerosmith you will love this game. If you do not like Aerosmith, you will not like this game. I give this game 7/10 because of the lack of change in looks and gameplay. Everything stayed the same as the previous installment to the series. This game could have easily been available on XBOX LIVE as a DLC track pack. If you're looking for new songs to rock out to and generally like Aerosmith, then this game is for you. If you don't like this game and are not in that big of a hurry to play new songs then maybe you should wait for another installment.
Till next time, happy gaming!
