Ever wonder what it is like to car-jack someone and then use their car to run them over. Wonder no more, thanks to Grand Theft Auto 4. Set in Liberty City a pseudo New York, this game will blow your mind in the scope of the city.
Having arrived on a boat from Europe in search of the American Dream, Niko Bellic has arrived seeking his fortune promised by his cousin Roman. Upon his arrival Niko realises that Roman wasn't exactly truthful in his letters, and that Roman is in trouble and owes some unsavoury characters a large amount of money. This is where you take control and have to help Roman out of his bind and also try to earn some extra pocket money. How? However you want.
Anyone who has played a GTA game before, or Saints Row will be right at home with the control scheme. It puts all of the tools you need right at your fingers to cause ultimate carnage. The driving is semi realistic where every car feels different and you will quickly find your ideal car for your driving style. Motorbikes, Helicopters and Boats all round out the driving/riding/flying/boating experience which when the controls are mastered provides hours of fun.
The character models in the game aren't hyper realistic like some games, but they are stylised in their own way. But, GTA4 uses the Euphoria engine which is a new graphics engine to realistically simulate human motion. E.g. Ride a motorbike flat out into a pole in Niko will go flying off in a totally believable way, that when you see it for the first time your jaw will drop. It isnt just Niko that this engine covers, it is every single NPC in the city. Which brings me to the city. The graphics for the city itself shows that Rockstar have spent alot of time adding polish to the graphics for the city proper. All of the different streets feel different and not just the same old textures applied differently.
Rockstar have always spent heaps of time thinking about the sound in GTA4. Everything has it's own unique sound, everything from the guns to the cars sounds believable. Rockstar have also added their trademark touch to the radio stations in the cars to the TV you can watch in your apartment, applying their humour in a way that doesn't take away from the game. Apart from the sounds and music, you can go to a comedy club and watch comedians from Chris Rock to Ricky Cervais do stand-up comedy.
This is one of the best games available for the 360. It has excellent game play to a very good multi player experience. I could type on and on about the tiny touches in the game but the only way to fully appreciate them would to go and play it for yourself. And as Brucie says "This is how we roll" Enjoy.
